Jsb, please just turn off CF for the day. Go outside.

No one is forcing you to be on here.

Look, this is big news which is worthy of discussion. I've posted nothing today or yesterday that even remotely is crazy.

I'm not going to pretend that Fred Hoiberg leaving is a good thing for Iowa State basketball (and therefor the topic of this message board section).

This line of Fred bashing needs to stop ASAP. It's not true and very insulting.

Fred has done a great deal for Iowa State. A ton. And I appreciate it more now that it is over :)

But I think it is perfectly OK to point out that coaching in the NBA is more important for him than coaching at Iowa State.

Some of you seem to think that him leaving is the ultimate sign of how much he loves Iowa State. It's not. It's kind of like we are the battered wives of sports.

I don't think anyone is asking you to pretend anything. All you're doing is just repeating yourself over and over.

Same thing you are doing.

What is inaccurate about that statement? He has a real chance to do something special at ISU this year with a top 5 roster. If he cared at all he would stay 1 more year, otherwise he is just quitting on ISU and the fans.

Oh for **** sake. Him leaving doesn't change my opinion about him and his feelings for Isu at all. He was always going to leave at sometime. Everytime he was asked about career records or long term coaches he laughed and said he had no interest in that. I wish he'd stay a couple more years, but if he decides to go now that doesn't mean he hates ISU.

It is completely false and insulting to say he doesn't care about Isu. Period.

Why is that sad? A lot of us know what type of year we are setup for next year if he stays. If he leaves that expectation will go down the drain. Then add to it that Fred is the ISU poster boy, if he doesn't want to be at ISU and take them to heights they have never seen well then good luck finding a coach who will be loyal to ISU.

That's why I will be mad.

Correct. One can be mad without being mad at Fred.

I certainly won't root for the Bulls but not because I'm mad at Fred. Why would I root for an organization that has snagged two ISU coaches? I don't root for them now so I won't if Fred goes there either. If some players (former Cyclones?) I like end up there that can change.

Feels like JP is just giving up after the heart attack. Why not float out there that they are trying to put together a package to keep Fred as long as they can. Even, just to give the illusion that he is trying.

Do you honestly believe the decision has anything to do with money? If it were simply a financial decision I have no doubt Fred and his agent would make that clear to Jamie Pollard, and then they would negotiate accordingly. It has absolutely nothing to do with how much money he wants to make. It's about much more than that.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

It might be unfair of me, but those are my thoughts as well.

If he leaves, then I feel his goal was to use ISU as a stepping stone to the NBA, and he didn't really have any other goals to achieve at ISU. Obviously he wanted to do well here, but mostly so that NBA teams would come a knockin'.

Or, he's not as competitive as I thought, and he's fine with leaving here before he's achieved his goals. Unless his goal was to get to one Sweet Sixteen, but if that's all his goal was, then he doesn't set his goals very high IMO.

If Fred leaves his guys high and dry right now, then I think it means his own goals of reaching the NBA were the most important to him. If that's the case, then fine. So be it. He'd go down as just another Gene Chizik in the sense that his allegiance to ISU ended as soon as a better gig came calling. Obviously Fred is a million times more loyal to this school, and means WAY more to it's fans than Chizik, but in a sense, that is what it would be saying IMO.

I think you just went over the top.

Give me 1 reason he couldn't stay 1 more year and do something real at ISU. If he cared he wouldn't let us burn a great opportunity.

He (and his family) obviously want to be in Chicago. That job wouldn't be open next year. If he did that he might have to stay at Iowa State for 3 or 4 more years before Chicago opened up again. The horror!!

I agree with your premise without the anger. It's clear he loves coaching in the NBA more than he loves coaching at Iowa State. I don't think that means he hates Iowa State. But it is not what he wants to do.

I understand that, but JP needs to give the appearance that he is at least trying everything he can to keep Fred. Just letting him walk with out trying is just stupid. Plus he is going to have to give a new coach worth anything at least what he is giving Fred.

No final four. No elite eight. No outright big XII title. No wins at KU. Leaves a lot of unfinished business. 5 years. Some players are here that long. Appreciate all he has done but I think if he leaves he clearly didn't live up to his potential as a college coach.

There's no question that there is unfinished business at ISU but life is all about timing.

That's why JP said what he did this week. Essentially, JP is saying that nothing he could offer would keep Fred here.

Most people realize that if Fred leaves there was nothing JP can/could do about it. Most people.
