Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

If Hoiberg leaves it would suck for Iowa State basketball, but says absolutely nothing (negative) about his character.

I'm actually inclined to believe him leaving this year would leave the program in better shape than if he left next year. If he left next year the cupboard would be bare and any high level recruits would probably back out.

I completely disagree that he is doing us a favor leaving this year. If he wants to leave now that's fine, but this year doesn't benefit Iowa State in the least.

I'm not sure the Bulls elimination really had much if any impact on what Bulls management wanted to do. I'd still be interested in knowing what Cloned had to say.

I don't know who to believe anymore, but Cloned said that he has it from the best possible source that Fred would be coaching here next year and likely several more. That was on Wednesday.

This is all sooo confusing... yeesh...

I'd find it hard to believe that he'd have the right opportunity to leave next season (unless the Bulls somehow end up keeping Thibs). I feel like if ISU can manage to keep Hoiberg this time around, it should be good for a few more summers.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Dat Bulls roster doe

Why anyone would want that job is beyond me, Thibs has overachieved. The Bulls biggest problem won't leave with Thibs or change with Fred on the bench. As long as Lebron is in the East, the Bulls have no shot. They have shown they'll fire a coach who can't get them past Lebron. It'll be 5 years or so before Chicago would have a realistic shot to beat CLE, management won't wait that long, especially after investing so much (by NBA standards) time in Thibs. They will have an ultra quick trigger for the next guy in his spot.

The Tribune has an interesting article today and discusses Van Gundy's old comments about how Bulls management treats their coaches. Frankly don't understand why anyone would want to work for an organization that has treated Thibs this badly. If he really wants to go to the NBA, I think there are better jobs frankly.

I agree I've actually gone on record as saying it's now or never and he might retire early but if he stays this time this wil, be his last coaching stop. This is the moment. Exciting but terrifying.

FWIW I also have sources that are saying Fred is all but gone. Mine is a former head coach at ISU.

Wayne Morgan don't know squat ;)

He must not think that the Bulls management will treat him badly since he is good friends with Gar. Or maybe they just want to live in Chicago that badly.

What about the Matt A. angle? Would Fred have let him go to SJU knowing he's going to the Bulls when he'd want to take Matt with him?

No one has done more for Iowa State sports than Fred Hoiberg. No one. Unbelievable how many people go full ****** bag at the thought of him leaving for a great opportunity. Selfish bastards.

Not many people mad. Plenty of people disappointed.

Sorry I'm not going to gush about how great it is if he leaves.

That's not what I said. Only that prospects for 2016-17 season would probably be better if FH left now than this time next year.

I suppose I just wouldn't be much happier with Hoiberg leaving after next season vs. this season.

I don't think Matt would be hired as an assistant with the Bulls. I'm sure Fred would take him with him as some sort of staff, but I'm guessing Matt would want to coach for a few years still.

The one I think Fred will take with him is Charlie Henry.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Why do you think that.

He said repeatedly he wanted to win a national title. I think part of the reason he's leaving Iowa State now is he knows it can't be done here---so why waste another 5 years before doing what he really wants to be doing?

He will be much more likely to win one at a school that can actually win a title. And let's not kid ourselves the Iowa State program is not going to be better off whenever he would decide to come back then it is today (and he's leaving it today).

But I don't think he'll come back to coach at any college.

People are delusional if they think he'd ever come back here to coach.

I do know for a fact to this is wrong. If Fred has a choice for college he chooses here.

This way they both have their dream jobs. Until the next dream job comes along anyway.

The NBA is an unwatchable league full of divas.

I wish Freddie all the best, but sadly I won't see him if he jumps.

Not sure what game bores me more than the NBA. A horrible product

Time for a new Athletic Director, plain and simple. Losing ISU legends Cael and Fred while supporting McDermott, Chizik, and CPR pretty much does it for me. Nevermind his endless stream of ******** comments in the media regarding transfers, freshman, etc. He can build buildings. Great, we needed that for a time, but that time has passed. Now it's time to ******* win and losing the golden goose is the final straw. Fire JP.

I'll understand it better if he waits at least another year to leave. Good NBA jobs open constantly. Minny is a better fit for him anyway. Don't bail on Niang his senior year and this talented roster.
