The problem is his selfish jump to the NBA which could wait a year kills what could have been a great season next year with a top 5 team coming back. Without Fred we get dropped to a top 20 team at best.

Yeah, it would be so much more unselfish for him to wait and leave once there is more of a bare cupboard to leave behind. huh????

She couldn't say one way or another just that she's heard her dad talking about it and said there's a chance he wont be coach here anymore or a chance he could be. So pretty much I got nothing out of it, will try again tomorrow.

Damn it, man. Tell her we need some real answers. None of this wishy-washy crap.

call it a hunch. but i would confidently place a fairly big wager on it. Back to GMAC years.

Perhaps its the ISU fan in you that thinks that way and I understand that,

But to be honest a cloud of whether he will stay or go year after year probably is not good for the long term health of the program.

There is a reason we continue to look for transfers, kids are just not sure what will be here when they come. Problem is then the transfers are used against ISU in another way when it comes to recruiting. Its a nasty cycle.

At some point the well will run dry, the NCAA is thinking of stopping the grad transfers. You need to remove that cloud of Fred's departure to the NBA one way or another

Our current best 2 players were high school recruits. We have 1 high school recruit in the last 2 years, and we got that guy cuz TJ came back.

Fred has been the master of putting together teams, but the reality is our best teams had high school guys ISU recruited at the core. Ejim, Niang, Morris.

After next season we have what 2 or 3 high school recruits on the roster as it stands now?

So if Fred leaves I assume the TJ 1 year deal turns into a TJ 3 or 4 year deal.
In college you cannot have an interim head coach.

TJ then goes out hires some AAU coach to his staff that has a couple of studs on it. Hate to get in the swamp like that but I think that is the path he would have to take.

The only concern is X's & O's I admit I am not familiar with TJ's skills in that area.

Unless you announce Otz as the one year interim Head Coach and Horny taking over at the end of next season for continuity reasons and that he will retain existing staff. Not happening but that is the only possible scenario I can think of that an interim could work. People know the next coach staff could recruit, Horny finishes out his contract at the Suns so we don't have to buy it out. We get continuity with players and system for next year. Otz gets to prove himself to potentiall be a very atractive HC for a higher level HC job in the future. Again not happening but the only possible scenario that this would conceivably make sense (that my pea brain can think of)

Otz had almost had a contract for the job when there was Gopher steam with Fred. The next coach is TJ. Get used to it.

"Gopher steam?" No one took any of that seriously other than UofM and delusional Gopher fans. Many rational Gopher fans knew he wasn't coming. That job would've been a lateral move or step down. The T-Wolves were the bigger threat.

Fred may/probably will leave, TJ may be the next coach, but I seriously doubt your "Gopher steam" statement.

So what? Fred can sign a ginormous guaranteed contract and be set for life after the Bulls go in another direction in 2-3 years as you say they will/might.

Fred HAS to take the job and the money. Period.

He's already got a multi-million dollar contract at ISU. If he wanted, he could walk away today and fully retire from coaching and live with the same standard of living as you and I. If he wanted to keep his same standard of living, he could finish his ISU contract and then retire still set for life.

He doesn't "HAVE" to take the job for the money. He's already a multi-millionaire. Unless he dumps his money in bad investments, he's already set for life.

The point is that a job just as attractive as this current Bulls job will come up every 2-3 years in the NBA. The compelling reason for Hoiberg to leave would be if he wants to just retire after 2-3 more years of coaching and/or as others have said he doesn't care as much about ISU as we think he does and he wants to take a chance and gamble on a long career in the NBA.

Yes... a guy who was interviewing for head coaching gigs at Green Bay and Northern Kentucky is the top choice for what looks like a preseason top 5 ranked team in the nation. Sounds about right...

Did we all get used to Greg McDoormatt stinking up the joint when he literally killed the program? I don't think so.

I jokingly told her I better be the first to find out when she knows something, she responded with, "Will you help me open my milk"

She seems to show more professionalism than the multiple leaky "sources" we have working in our athletic department.

Let's raise the stakes on our little fan-hitting sh**storm and make this more entertaining for all involved. Mods/Admins, my proposal (truly, this is all in the name of having some fun while getting these boards back in check):

Until a coaching decision is publicly made...

  • 24-hour ban for each new post in the Hoiberg thread that claims "a source told me".
  • 24-hour ban for each new mention of "TJ".
  • 24-hour ban for any claims that Busch Light is an acceptable beer to drink.
  • 48-hour ban for any post mentioning Hoiberg's children.
  • 72-hour ban for each new Hoiberg thread created.

If Hoiberg stays...

  • 1-week ban for every member who "knew" he was gone.

If Hoiberg goes...

  • 1-week ban for every member who "knew" all along that he would stay.
A source told me (may or may not know Fred's children) that Fred will for sure stay for the long term however, on Friday he will be announcing a 1 year sabbatical to coach the bulls and try to fulfill his dream of an NBA championship and then return to Ames for 2016. Otz will be interim HC.

does a :jimlad: prevent a 2.5 week ban?
