I think he is probably gone.....BUT.....it's kind of funny that we are all going through the various stages of grieving even before anything official has been announced. The door hasn't been shut yet.

Glad to see it is time for the hordes of posters dropping in to call out the people that say they know something without saying what they know.

(Not directed at CyFan61... at least not only at CyFan61)

What the Bulls are doing to Thibs is pretty ridiculous and awful. I understand it's a business, but this organization has done nothing but disrespect him and treat him like a piece of meat. The front office in Chicago is what's wrong with the Bulls and why anyone as highly sought after as Fred would want to work for them, is beyond absurd.

They've done a good job playing up the "playing guys in to the ground" angle. I still haven't seen any hard numbers on that compared with other teams.

Tonight I heard almost exact same thing Jeremy posted earlier from a family member that works in the athletic department in that it felt a week ago like Fred was out the door but now staying another year at ISU and then coaching the Timberwolves in 2016-2017 is very much in play.

Which would be worse.

Hey Recruits. Come play here. I won't be here. But you should.

Its not like he's going to announce "yeah, I'm only coaching here one more year, then I'm going to take over a job that is not open." Give me one more year of Fred.

Only way that strategy works, IMO, is if they plan on hiring Otz, and just announce him as Hoiberg's eventual successor. Otherwise our recruiting would take a nose dive. And even if we do that it could still take a nose dive.

The other coaches would be like sharks on blood more than they already are. 2015-16 will be like Tom Cruise's last charge in "The Last Samurai." Beautiful, but in the end, the end.

I occasionally hear rumors on the athletic front since I have a few family members that work at ISU, I rarely post them but thought it was interesting I heard the same thing that Jeremy did. Don't kill the messenger!

He could just as well unless there's a new deal.

There, IMO, are two ways to salvage the future if Fred comes back

1. A new contract. Specifically, a large NBA buyout which he should agree to anyway since he won't have to pay it and it will help ISU. To me, this doesn't matter but it's at least something you can point to. This only works if a change in heart tells him he wants to be here for awhile.

2. You publicly name TJ coach in waiting. At least then someone on the staff will be here.

Neither of these things solves all the problems. It might get a guy or two but that's better than what you will get if Fred simply "returns." There will be no Monte, there will be no Georges in that class since nothing is gaurenteed. Initially, I would have told you I'd give up five years to see what the future holds but there is a ton of momentum here to be lost and this job may never be this attractive again. I don't know if you can go out and get a highly proven coach or not but I can tell you that we won't next year. So, if I'm JP, I'm seriously considering proposing a higher NBA buyout and if Fred decides to leave, we live with it. Of course, Fred could have a change of heart next year too. I think it's interesting to think about but I really think ISU is just over a barrel here. I guess it's a matter of what you think will happen next year. If it's a final four, I'll give up the next five years. If it's a sweet sixteen? I'll get the transition process moving.
