Not sure if this belongs here or in the basketball thread. I put it here because it is more about the psychology behind the discussion, rather than the discussion itself.
So I was thinking today...why do some of us get so worked up about something for which we have no impact on the result. Unless there are some big donors or AD staff lurking anonymously on the board, none of us can actually influence the final selection of our new coach. Yet we spend hours and hours engaging in the debate on who is the best candidate, why so-and-so is or isn't qualified, etc. What do you think motivates us to take the time and energy to do this?
Is it because:
For me personally, it's probably a blend of #1, #2, and #4, even though 1 and 2 are foolish and naive. But I don't know what else it would be except for that.
Thoughts?

Is it because:
- We are hoping the final choice will match with our preference, so later we'll be able to say, "I knew it should be this guy"
- We think that in some small, small way, our individual argument will eventually trickle up to the decision-makers, and we'll actually have a tiny influence on the decision
- We actually believe we'll be able to convince the CF community we are right, and build a grass-roots voice for our preferred candidate that will have an influence on the decision
- We just love to argue and disagree with people, and this is a relatively harmless way to flex our debating muscles
- We are secretly fueling the click-bait strategy that Chris and Jeremy are cleverly executing behind the scenes (just kidding...had to throw that one in there for kicks)
- Any other ideas?
