Someone please tweet at Prohm and tell him not to recruit Chicago...or at least email Pollard.

Ya, Illinois can't even recruit Chicago. If you're not willing to get really dirty, you are limited to mid-major players in the Chicagoland area.

OT: I sort of SMH when I see some of these assistant salaries. I think Tim Floyd made like $600,000 at ISU. And wasn't Johnny Orr making like $45,000 when he first came to ISU? I think he was the highest paid coach in the nation at the time as well. It wasn't THAT long ago. Times, they have changed!

Can someone explain to me why Chicago is a big ol' waste of time? Rivals has 8 guys in the 2016 Top 150 from the Chicago or the 'burbs. No Iowa guys in the Top 150...maybe we should skip recruiting here?

But in a wild change of events, Alexander, who once said he could picture himself at Michigan State, dropped a bomb on Izzo, a coach he supposedly "loved" and "respected," per ChicagoHoopsMedia.

Alexander's move was sudden, but not necessarily surprising.

Shortly before the "I'm cutting MSU" video was posted, Izzo made comments pertaining to courting Chicago-area players.

Maybe the statement directly applied to Alexander. Maybe it didn't. But the timing was awfully curious.

“I don't want to get slapped by somebody for saying the wrong thing, as far as talking about recruiting,” Izzo said (via Joe Rexrode of the Detroit Free Press). “A lot of good players, a lot of coaches and good players — a lot of middlemen.”

For those blind to corruption in NCAA and amateur athletics, open your eyes—it's everywhere. And without putting words into his mouth or going too far with speculation, it's safe to assume that Izzo isn't into playing ball with or engaging in questionable transactions with third parties.

It's not difficult to connect the dots.

Certain people expect favors, regardless of morality or legality, in exchange for the delivery of blue-chip athletes. Now, that's not meant to establish a connection between Izzo and such behavior; it's just an example of some of the not-so up-and-up practices that some coaches may encounter.

Because you need duffel bags of cash to land said players. Unless you're one of the chosen few blue blood programs that the NCAA will refuse to investigate, it may not be worth the risk.

You've heard of "the Chicago way".... It's like that in basketball just as it is in politics.

never claimed to, just my opinion.

So, you don't want TJ due to GMAC ties?

Opinions? Everything you post is pretty much you declaring something to be whether it is or not. I don't really care if TJ stays or goes at this point. Its up to Prohm to make the hires because he is the head coach now. He knows more about running a basketball program than you or I do. Hoiberg is gone. TJ is overrated big time by a small group on this site.

Otz probably will play out his contract this year and then go looking for mid major jobs end of season. That is just how it looks. One more year of Otz.
