National guys out-scooped local mediate repeatedly throughout the hiring process. Only guy around here with the proper connecting appears to be Jeremy.

I see your point - but this is saying the media basically works as an extension of ISU Athletics then.

this website is. all the articles on CF are puff pieces about how great the people in the athletic department are. Although this doesn't seem to be benefiting anybody on the media side, great for the folks on the AD side.

wow, wasn't that long ago that CF didn't exist, ames trib had NO ONE covering isu hoops, and the national media couldn't care less.

our local coverage is fantastic and should be appreciated!

Most of your local sports personalities are not willing to make a strong opinion on things in worries of upsetting someones feelings. Most of them are unwilling to just come out and say what is going to happen or what they are hearing.

I think that is the reason they don't come out and say things, but rather toss out different scenarios so they aren't wrong.

I certainly don't like to think its because they know less than a lot of people in the public regarding what is happening behind the scenes.

National guys are connected to agents and hiring firms far more closely than a local reporter.

Not me. Jeff Hornacek's agent and I are tight. :jimlad:

True. You guys are practically attached at the hip. I'm not sure if that situation, or Mike Stoops' agent using Marty and Miller back in 2008, was funnier, and more indicative of how nasty the agent world is in sports.

The guy that said Fred personally drove himself to Chicago then 4 hours later shows up at the Ames Airport to do some interviews? Ya, great connections.

If you would have been paying attention last week, the local media did know what was going on.

We need a code for CW and the guys to use:

"very, very likely" = done deal, I can't announce it yet, but I'm scooping Rothstein.

"very likely" = almost a done deal, but not yet for certain.

"likely" = it is what I think will happen, but I don't know for sure.

Right now, it is tough to be able to tell the difference between CF insider leaks and their hunches. We need a code!

What does "gun to my head" mean then?

Yeah, this is another good example. What does it mean in our CF code when CW says "if I had a gun to my head?"

I thought I had the code figured out right before Fred made it official that he was leaving, but then all the TJ-pumping, especially by Jeremy, threw me off. The level of intensity for TJ seemed like so much more than just getting ready for the possibility, but that seems to be all it was. I don't want to sound unappreciative. If TJ had been hired, it would have been very good to have been prepped so well for him. It just seemed like much more than that.

Wow -- it's like nobody understands that there are politics in sports. People (agents) give scoops to national guys and earn a favor. I don't think it's anything more than that. Information is figuratively "for sale", and national guys will figuratively "pay" the most.

There are loads of people who know this stuff before it's formally "scooped" before it's formally announced, including local and national sports reporters, website hacks (just kidding), donors (sometimes), and the list goes on. The people involved know to keep the secret because the formal "scoop" is a big deal.

They were definitely on Daniyal Robinson but I hadn't heard anyone say a thing about TJ.

On Thursday (on KXNO) both Hines and Williams said they expected TJ to stay. If you read between the lines, these guys usually know what's going to happen, they just don't come out and "report" it.

I heard it (edit: that TJ is on Prohm's staff) directly from a very legitimate source at CCL on Wednesday night, so yeah CW's tweet is accurate.

I invited him to come onto my LIVE radio show to explain how my report was inaccurate. Called him 5 times. Emailed him. Got not response.

The report was accurate.

Believing you over an agent is a pretty easy pick.

I would brake for an agent (but probably not swerve). Though I would probably feel bad about braking later.

Yea, it isn't about a "legitimate source" telling a random guy at CCL. It's about officially reporting it with your name attached to it. A couple 'nuggets' on a local sports radio show that less than 1% of the public is listening to isn't "being all over it."
