I may not be in the majority, but I want some answers during this press conference. The carnage and exodus over the past few years is too great to just give cursory answers about this one instance and move on. The wheels are coming off and if there is to be any of JP's often mentioned "hope" for the program's future the fans have a right to know what's wrong and how it's going to be fixed otherwise it will be difficult to sustain any kind of support from the much needed fringe group of fans.

I have a feeling we will get nothing from this. As it was said before Mac will probably take the high road, nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't provide answers.

Unless he has documents to prove what WJ has said then we will be in a back and forth, who do you believe situation.

I hope some of the local media will ask the tough questions though, it should be interesting.

Unfortunately, I suspect you will get some major "spinning". McDermott will be in full self preservation mode and will likely run the bus over Wesley's body a few more times for good measure. More importantly, in such a small media market like central Iowa I highly doubt that any of the media will really have the balls to put McDermott on the spot (likely for fear of ostracism from ISU's program).

Great point, since Greg Doyle won't be there to stir things up it will probably be spinning in ISU's favor all day.

Yikes, seems like a hard crowd. People do not want him to take the high road and won't be happy if he does. People will also hate him for running the bus over WJ if he deserves it. Tough crowd - I wouldn't want to coach here.

Hopefully he can come out and maybe have a good comment on the situation. Too bad he can't comment on recruiting though.

I agree with this. We all want answers, but I highly doubt we'll get many - if any - tomorrow.

Couldn't disagree more with this.

If he takes the high road, that is fine by me. It's what a coach should do. That's why he is getting paid to be here, take some heat and move on. Spin it though, that this isn't a big deal, we are a team and this is a team game. Wish Wes well, dont' talk about how it went down or the negative stuff we have all been talking about the last 24+ hours.

I'm not sure why we need a press conference, did Licklitter have a press conference when TF left? If he did I missed it but I miss a lot of Hawk pressers since I don't really care.

There's no way he's going to throw Wesley under the bus and possibly alienate his teammates. He's really asking for CB and friends to leave if he does that. I can accept vagueness about Wesley, but really can't about the defection problem as a whole. It would be nice for him to admit some mistakes and lay out some actions so it doesn't happen again. I don't want to keep wondering why this is going on.

I don't think many hawk fans would like to hear how TF was given the cold shoulder. I don't know if that is true but that is what I heard and that would not make a good press conference.

He did, but essentially said nothing.

I would expect this tomorrow.

But maybe Polllard has asked him to address the defection issue and that is what the whole thing is about.

Ya think?

I mean, we're hemorrhaging players faster than an 80-year old man that's run out of Preparation H - somebody needs to do/say something.

I don't get all the heat on GMac for the players leaving. For the sake of argument, let's say GMac gets the blame for WJ and Brister. Taggart, Carr, Stinnett and DeGand left because of Morgan being fired. Stinson and Blaylock left early to go pro (smart moves, sarcasm intended) and probably partly because of Morgan's situation. CJ left to get more playing time, Vette was homesick and Jacobsen graduated early. I probably missed some, but that's 11 players, of which GMac had nothing to do with 9 of them. Plus, I would say blaming GMac for WJ is premature and I don't know enough about the Brister situation to cast blame either way.

This player turnover problem has been going on long before GMac got here. Floyd used to get criticized for "running players off". LE had a 5 or 6 man recruiting class that I seem to remember none of them ever putting on a Cyclone uniform. Right off hand, I don't remember any Morgan defections while he was here, but he wasn't here long. So, this isn't a GMac problem. I think the problem lies with the coaching carosel we've had the last 10-15 years. When a coach leaves/gets fired, players go too. If we place the ultimate responsibility for this on GMac and he is fired, many of the players he recuited will go elsewhere. If we stop the coaching carosel, we'll start to see some stability in the program and I think this will slow down dramatically.

GO CYCLONES!!!

Coach taking the high road is respectible. Any person should, but at the same time you can't overlook the lack of heads up on WJ's part. I think there is no shame in saying that the university and the coaching staff were in shock and surprised by the decision. There are respectful ways of saying obliviant thoughts.

I too think that this press conference needs to cover more than just the WJ situation. This has happend far too much to honestly start putting tons of faith that any player coming to ISU is in it for the long haul. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I think the fan base is far from fooled anymore and just wants an understanding.

Now you beg the question. Do we deserve answers. Is it our right to need to know everything that's going on. No I don't think we do. But when you do have a university and AD who push for support and fan turnout, some answers are need to continue on with our support. If there is a problem, the fans will demand changes.

Because he still recruited them - they're his players - and his entire first class is already gone just two years in.

GMac had nothing to do with 9 of them.

Absolutely can not agree with that. While I think some are putting more on Greg than they should - some of this needs to fall on him.

All of the others had reasonable explanations to them - at least as far as we know. This one, from the little we do know - isn't so easy to explain.

Floyd, LE and Morgan are no longer affiliated with the program - not even close. So IMO, that's should not be any sort of justification for what's taking place here.

I still believe in Greg. I'm just much more concerned about why this continues to happen - whether it happened in the past or not.
