Seeing some chatter on Hawkeye Lounge and I thought this would be a good discussion from both sides. Who would you rather have: Beathard or Richardson?

Iowa fans are super confident in Beathard despite him throwing more than 10 passes in a game three times.

17/37 245 1 TD 1 INT @ Purdue W 24-10
13/23 145 2 TD 1 INT vs. TENN L 45-28
15/24 211 1 TD 0 INT vs. Ill St. W 31-14

He has a big arm, but he has looked erratic at times. Why are Iowa fans so confident he's better than Richardson? Kinda bizarre.

0-15 is all I need to know. And I'm a super-biased Iowa State fan. I'll take Beathard until Sam proves himself.

Safe to say if Sam had Purdue on his schedule, he'd likely have a conference win. And give me a break on the 0-15. He was THE reason we beat KU when Jantz went down.

Sam is who he is, Beathard has too small of sample size for me to say he's better than him but that could easily change. Beathard hasn't been very good when he's played a lot

he did have Kansas on his schedule right? I think wins is a terrible argument to use, but that's not a vary good defense to use.

For just this season and system I'd take Sam. I think Beathard has a higher ceiling though. Strikes me as a gunslinger type which might not be what this team needs this year.

Beathard has the better arm and a great release but Richarson is the better runner. I think I would go with Beathard

Exactly the same reason I'd take Vandenberg their white walk on receiver over Allen Lazard, Davario Montgomery, and Quentin Bundrage. :jimlad:

You've gotta be kidding me.

Yes, he went 23-27 for 250 yds and 4 TD against them in 2012, which is more impressive than any start Beathard has ever had.

I think Beathard might be better for ISU and Sam might be better for Iowa.

With our weapons at WR, a guy that isn't afraid to take chances, while throwing some interception, could also make some big plays.

Sam is a short and medium throw guy, which fits well with what Iowa runs. I don't remember Iowa throwing deep once against Ill St with the Heisman candidate at QB. Sam would be good in their running game as well.

This is the reasonable answer it seems. But you would be hard-pressed to find an Iowa fan that would agree. The legend of CJB is a direct reaction to Ferentz and not necessarily a reflection of CJB's performance. They seem blind to that.

Can I take neither? I don't think either one is a good fit for their respective teams or the opposite team really. Both teams need Brad Banks/Seneca Wallace types of QB's. Iowa to add the third dimension to their play action and ISU to make plays when protection breaks down.
