I dunno, I don't think UCF or UNT are more attractive and Illinois is probably a toss-up.

I would take Illinois over Iowa State in a heartbeat because it would be easier to show success with the easier schedule. UCF isn't Power Five but is in a recruiting hotbed and would be an easier launching pad to a top-tier job than Iowa State. I agree UNT is not as good as Iowa State.

Miami is not exactly a dream job. They don't pay great (at $2.2m Golden's salary was 42nd among coaches). And they have highly delusional expectations.

And not a perfect match for college football head coach personalities. They have to go flashy and hire an NFL guy.

Chip Kelly strikes me as a good fit for Miami. Maybe he comes in and demands an on-campus stadium so they finally get that done.

I also think the next hire might need to have a gimmick offense, we can't compete playing the same style as the big boys in the conference.

Forget a gimmick. I tweeted Saturday that our current team is built for a certain style of play and that is power running. That needs a qb like lanning who is a bull-reminds me of arnaud. Put a rb to each side and run run run mixed in with some shots to our big wrs. Keep clock moving, string drives, wear defense down. The fact that we ignored this through over half our season is depressing. I'm not saying lanning is "better" than Sam. Better is relative. He is a better fit for our current team build and in anything to maximize success you need to play to your strengths. We have not done that. Can you inagine kstate with a qb and 2 rbs like we have? They would grind out 10 wins a year in the big12 playing the same schedule as us.

Doesn't matter PR is not not going to to get fired this season. Money will be an issue, I think he will give him one more season and let the record and poor attendance be what gives him the reason to fire him. Right now the fans are still supporting the program unlike when DM got fired.ISU is as a tough job, but they have what it takes facility wise to compete. They need to hire someone that can develop talent (like Iowa) and recruit. I also think the next hire might need to have a gimmick offense, we can't compete playing the same style as the big boys in the conference.

I hope you're joking and not infatuated with a second half against Baylor where we closed the gap on a huge deficit. If we are going to get a coach to develop talent, let start the search now.

Quote from Leath, last December. If Rhoads wins 3 or less, Leath can't keep him. No way.

“I’d like to get our football program where it needs to be, which is representative of a first-class university. We’re not there. The last two seasons were clearly disappointing,” Leath says. “As to Paul’s future, I can’t predict that. He knows, (ISU athletics director Jamie Pollard) knows that we want a first-class, winning program and that’s where we’ve got to be and hopefully he’s the guy to get us there, but either way, we’ve got to get there.”

We better fire CPR if we hope to get out that word that Iowa State is looking for a HC. If we don't, we will be too late by the time CPR is fired and we will end up wth someone like the WR coach from ball state.

Last time I looked we have 5 games left, so lets give the kids a chance to compete without a lame duck coach. There is no reason to get ahead of the pack because no existing coach will be given permission by their AD to interview for a new job during the season. Jamie can do any legwork behind the scenes.

I don;t get it, he was on his way to turning it around. Why fire him now?

No he wasn't. A couple knocks against Golden:

1) He did not endear himself to the former Miami players. At The U that is a must for a coach.

2) Miami has been getting great recruiting classes under Golden but they don't produce on the field. If you can't win at Miami with the talent you get just from the 100 mile radius around Miami you have big problems as a coach. Last year for example Miami had 7 players drafted but only went 6-7 (3-5 in a weak ACC) that is horrible.

I wouldn't say they are highly delusional. With the talent in a 100 mile radius of Coral Gables they should be fighting for the ACC Championship every year.

At least 7 jobs open... and probably 6 of those are more attractive for coaches than Iowa State would be. Could be slim pickings this offseason

looks like Paul can have his pick of the litter

I agree that we don't need a "gimmick" type of offense. Cyvader has it right. Be a power running offense (Stanford style). I watched the Stanford-Washington game last night. Stanford's offensive style would cause quite a few of the Big 12 teams to have a problem defending it.

As the number of football programs (searching for a new head coach) gets longer, the more difficult it will be for Iowa State to hire a good replacement head coach, with experience. I think that it becomes more likely that if the decision is made to cut ties with CPR, we will likely find ourselves back to the search for an up and comiing coordinator.(with aspirations to be a head coach). After giving this a fair amount of thought, I would be reasonably excited for the administration to take a hard look at Scott Frost. This brings me back to thinking that a Stanford style offense might be the way for Iowa State to go. My brother (a semi-connected Nebraska guy) was over for the TCU game. He said that the latest rumor (at UNL) was that Scott Frost was not sure if he ever wanted to coach at Nebraska because he fully understood what a "fish-bowl" that would be. He has (apparently) stated that he would give serious consideration to coaching at KSU or ISU. Food for thought......

Everyone caught up in "recruiting tactics" and Florida and Florida State are pulling a lot of what they would have pulled in the late 80s early 90s.

Not saying that he will be a head coach again but I think he would do ok at a school like Miami. Paul has proven that if he has good recruits he can win games. Yes I'm talking about when he first got here.

I'm sorry but we are never going to hire the same type a coach as Miami, South Carolina or USC. This isn't just about the name on the front of the jersey it's about finding the right fit for ISU. Honestly guys like Golden or Schiano could do well here. They excelled at smaller schools with players that lacked stars out of high school.

There is no way that I would accept Golden as the head coach here, we might as well keep CPR if we did that. Golden is a terrible coach and couldn't produce with the good talent that he had in Miami, so what makes u think he would do well with the ones he could get in Ames?
