Chuck Long made the comment that the Iowa State Mangino is not the same one that coached at Oklahoma. Mangino seemed to be collecting a pay check with an eye on retirement. I don't think he was 100% emotional invested in his job and it showed by the results on the field. His failure against Iowa in the second half was evident.

If this truly is the case(Mangino phoning it in) then this is the right move.
Maybe not the right time. But the right move for sure. CPR took the program back today and clearly made a move to start Lanning. I love it.

Is it possible that CPR took Mangino out before Pollard turned the program over to him at end of year? Was this decision made with or without support of Jamie?

Regardless. Would love to see team come together around Lanning and beat Texas.

Way up there
Whichever QB is starting Saturday could speak volumes about how this went down. If Sam is starting, CPR pry had Sams back, if its JL, then its possible CPR made the executive decision to start him and MM didn't like it.

Here come the armchair public relations experts, ready to tell us (with perfect hindsight) exactly how Paul Rhoads should have handled this!

Take this for what it's worth, but I have heard about Rhoads-Mangino tension from someone close to the program almost since Mangino's first day in Ames. That hire seriously escalated the behind-the-scenes dysfunction.

I think Rhoads knows that his ship is sinking. He's putting it all on 7 Red and letting it ride for one last spin around the roulette wheel to see if somehow his job can be saved. If not, at least he will go out his way. For someone who has wanted Rhoads gone for a long time, I respect that.

The exact moment when Rhoads knew Mangino needed to go.

This is great, everyone thinks CPR needs to do something and he does and people still hate him. Everyone on the staff is to blame for the dumpster fire we have going on, but CPR is the head coach plain and simple so he gets to do what he thinks is beast, and if that if firing Mangino so be it.

everyone on this board thought mangino sucked two weeks ago and CW called for Sturdy to be the play caller, the adjustment people been asking are happening. Good grief.

Randy Peterson, trying to 'mister investigative reporter' again at the presser..... He said he not going into detail on the differences but keep asking him questions on it.... That does not help....

I don't know if this is a good or bad thing. The playcalling has been pretty bad this year. The stupid tunnel screens and sideline screens have gotten us nowhere. The shotgun deployment has hurt us in short yardage. The idea the SR shouldn't do scrambles, rollouts, or keepers has hurt us badly - especially since he can't throw deep. I wasn't real impressed with Mangino's interviews - he just didn't seem very motivated or quick-witted. I wonder if MM was posturing to become CPR's replacement, since there is blood in the water right now. I just hope we hold onto Ayeni and Blaney . I also think SR will still get minutes - if Lanning doesn't know all the plays yet.

It was a minor travesty that our stud WR's and 5th year Senior QB couldn't get the offense moving. And then when we prove to have a darn good freshman running back . . . nothing.

I don't think Mangino was the whole problem, but the Offense hadn't produced under him.
We have one potential stud WR

is this 1985? People have these things called cell phones now, you can even send group texts! You guys should look into getting one.

Dude we don't have that doctor and lawyer money in the ISU AD to be all fancy. Saving money by sticking with an old cell phone plan that has 250 messages per month, a group text to 100+ players would be all kinds of extra charges this month. #Fiscalresponsibility
