CFP Committee has built in B1G/SEC bias says Fox's Joel Klatt

Not that I agree with the AP voters much, but basically what Klatt said was that the committee ranked 60% of the BIG 10 and SEC teams higher than the AP voters did, but ranked none of the Big 12 and PAC 12 teams higher than the AP voters did.

He also goes on to say that Barry Alvarez and Tom Osborne have too much influence on the rest of the committee and gets them to sway towards pro-style offenses.

Not that we should be surprised, but it does seem that there is a bias. Why should Ohio State be ranked so much higher than Baylor when they have basically the same resume? Why didn't Okie St. move up higher than they did after beating a TCU team that was 20-1 in over the last two seasons?

The fact that Alvarez and Osborne are there guarantee there will ALWAYS be a B1G team in the final 4. The committee needs to be made up of others than current ADs and whatnot. At least at the div 1 level. They will always be biased, they get more $$$ if their conference makes it.

I guess I'm not shocked that old guys like smash mouth/power football.

If the committee were made up of 20-30 year olds I bet we would see a bias to high-scoring offenses like Oregon.

This actually makes me wonder - if they still made an NCAA football game would it draw more interest to a school like Baylor? Va. Tech pretty much made their name on Mike Vick and his literal video game numbers. If more kids could play a season as Baylor chucking up deep routes every single play, do you think that would change the national perception?

this is the misconception Baylor runs the ball very well but everyone thinks all they do is throw the ball.

The BCS had it's flaws, but I still don't like the idea of replacing a computer ranking system with people, especially people with strong bias (Alvarez/Osborne)

Klatt is right. There's no other reason Iowa would make that jump after beating unranked 4-5 Indiana by 8 and Oklahoma St to not move up farther after beating #3 or whatever TCU was badly. Ohio St deserves to be where they are IMO because they're the defending champs and haven't lost yet, but in reality based on the schedule they've played they shouldn't be where they're at.

Isn't Iowa higher in the CFP than in the AP? So there would be more than 0% higher for teams west of the Mississippi...

Yeah but I think he was meaning conferences. The B1G is an east of Mississippi conference.
