I will always like CPR. Even with the bad times his years were better than lots of stretches of ISU football.

The Toledo, OK State and KSU games made this absolutely necessary though.

The offense making such a massive improvement halfway through the year with personnel change was a double edged sword for CPR too. On one hand it proved Mangino was likely a cancer, on the other it showed CPR was unable to perform the necessary actions to get rid of it early enough.

Good yet sad news. No one I wanted to see succeed more, but clear it wasn't happening. And yesterday was a giant nail in that coffin.

So are they doing this now to may keep a hire internally?

I doubt it. But be prepared to be underwelmed with our new coach.

I'm guessing that this is Leath's influence. Jamie probably would have waited. I have very mixed feelings on Leath. I obviously was glad that he allegedly stuck his head in the basketball coaching search. But I don't like the idea of him making these types of decisions in theory. Same thing with this. I trust Leath about as far as I can throw him.

Yeah, bittersweet for me. Really like Paul as a man, hoped like hell he would get it done here.

I'm surprised this is happening today, honestly. Figured this would wait until after WVU.

No one should be celebrating this; he poured his heart and soul into the program. He's a fellow Iowan and you know he genuinely loved Ames Iowa.

This is a business decision. The time has come for a new direction. Thank you for your service to our university, Paul.

Wonder who's going to be the interim head coach. Wally? Sturdy? Ayeni?

I feel sad for Paul, I wish it had gone differently. Excited for the program however, it had to be done.

I like Paul as a person, but I don't really feel for him. He could retire right now and live happily ever after... so why should anyone feel sorry for the guy?

And.... he had more than enough chances to prove he deserved to stay on as head coach, and has failed at nearly every single one of them.

Talk about a fine line though. ISU wins that game yesterday, and I think Rhoads might have stayed on for another year. But it is time to move on. Mangino knew what Rhoads had to do to save his job, and that's why he tweeted what he did yesterday. He knew it was over for him. Still a low class move, but you had to think he knew what he was talking about.

I hope JP has a few names already lined up for interviews.
