illinois and Maryland? Definitely a hawk fan.
Illinois and Maryland are better jobs. Maryland is in great location, money heavy, UA and easier to recruit to. Illinois has more money and more in-state talent.

If I were a coach, I would absolutely go to Maryland and Illinois ahead of Iowa State. The chances of getting to 6 wins there are much higher simply given the schedule.

I'd say all of the following would be more appealing than ISU (that would be viewed as being on the same level):

Illinois
Maryland
South Carolina
Missouri
UCF (Debatable, certainly)

The bigger problem is more openings are coming, and anyone who could get the above jobs will wait on the below jobs before taking them:

USC
Miami
Virginia Tech

I don't know why anyone would accept the ISU job before all of the above job openings are closed. And that's before the LSU job goes on the market, and potentially others that we don't know about yet.

This is a bad year for ISU to be trying to hire someone.
A lot of those schools are more attractive than Iowa, even with the success. KF has done a great job building the program and getting recruits, but he has even admitted how hard it is getting recruits to come to the state.

given all the dollars involved in college athletics today, I think every year will be a bad year to hire a coach.

i think we see 6-10 openings every year at BCS and BCS-like schools.

dont be such a pessimist. Iowa state is the best job ever. People are literally beating down the door to get hired here. Why is your glass half empty?

There have been national media members that have stated UCF is a more attractive position than ISU.

I agree that is debatable - I said as much in the post. I think the ISU job is better, but recruiting is certainly more attractive at UCF.

The recruiting for UCF is moot once you consider they are at best 5th choice in their own state. That far down the ladder and recruits have to heavily consider what they value more (Home and warm weather) vs playing power 5 ball. Fickle fan support is just icing on the turd that is UCF. They are as big of, if not more than, a joke as FA&M and the kids know it.

The schedule and recruiting are the reasons UCF is also viewed more favorably than ISU by some.

Either school will be looked at as a springboard job - at UCF it's easier to recruit (i.e. all the talent you need is in your backyard) and you only have to play AAC schools.

Going 10-2 or 11-1 in the AAC is much easier than doing that in the B12.

i wonder why the navy coach would choose Iowa state over Maryland (if both want him). Same area. Triple option plays better in the big 10.

Being the 4th/5th choice in Florida is easier than being the 2nd choice in Iowa. Particularly when you don't have to play against Oklahoma, Texas, Baylor, Etc.

I'm not saying UCF is a grand slam home run better job than ISU - but you can make that argument.

Everyone knows your opinion. You don't have to keep spewing the same thing over and over to get your point across in every thread.

Can people stop quoting JSB so we don't have to see his/her crap. Or can the mods just do everyone a favor and give him/her a timeout. Every thread is full with the exact same stuff from him/her and people still keep taking his/her bait.

I'm still not convinced that it's not a Hok troll.

If you truly believe that, well....then theres no point in continuing this but what do I know? I only live down here.

Think about the type of guy Pollard wants to hire..family man..generally nice person..has run a winning program..I don't think we will hire an assistant or coordinator from another P5 school..just my hunch. I do think Frost will be a candidate and interview. I think Frost is prob the top Assistant that will interview and I'd be ok with him as our HC honestly. Lots of positives surrounding Frost. WTS..it will likely be a list of Brohm, maybe Fleck, Alford, Frost, Calhoun, Ken N(Navy).

We can land any of these guys. Any of these guys would take the ISU job. Outside maybe Fleck and Frost who might hold out for a bigger gig some day. Just my thoughts based on how we've seen Pollard operate in past with other hires and the bball candidates.

Illini football is an afterthought in Chicago (Illinois). Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Iowa, Northwestern, and most other Big Ten teams, are more appealing to kids than Illinois.

There are negatives to the ISU job, no doubt, but you have as loyal and passionate a fanbase as there is in College Sports.

There are blue collar guys that don't need to be flashy, and that is the kind of guy we need.

Something I found from 2008 that may apply again this time

#1 Coach gets fired. Half the people hate the idea the other half love it.
#2 Coaching search happens and every big name is thrown that they are going to be the next ISU head coach
#3 Reality hits and we hire someone without a big name
#4 At first the fans are a little apprehensive
#5 JP holds a press conference and everyone starts going nuts
#6 fans expectations fo crazy and by the end of August fans are talking about bowl games
#7 Football season starts.
