Wow. Huge loss.

Hope he gets the medical redshirt for next year.

Niang, Morris, McKay, Nader, Thomas, Cooke, and Burton will have to run this show. Can we do it with 7?
Those nights starting in foul trouble on the road in the Big 12, no we will not. Someone on the bench has to step up

You know you are in deep **** when John Walters tweets not to rest on Jordan Ashton. :)

So does this mean we need to hold onto an extra scholarship until we know if his medical redshirt was approved? Then if it gets rejected, scramble at the last minute to recruit someone into the spot?

Terrible news. Hope his career is not over.
This is going to put more pressure on Burton. I'm afraid it's going to take him 2-months to get in bball shape.

I dont think it puts pressure on Burton...more so on Cooke. Regardless, a huge blow to depth.

That is the least of our worries. We still have a ton of spots open and that is assuming Monte will be back---which he won't.

****! Can't imagine how tough of a decision this must be for Naz. You know that he wanted to go out with Georges. Would love to have him back next year, though. Hopefully he gets his redshirt, and most importantly, can fully recover. Oklahoma St is throwing a party as we speak, I'm sure. . .

Injuries happen to every team out there. The great ones get by with them. ISU can still do that just fine. Everyone needs to take a collective step forward

As a famous scholar named spiker once said, **** off

Iowa State will miss Naz Mitrou-Long for his leadership and vocal presence as much as anything else. Matt Thomas more than capable of making shots. Hallice Cooke will also need to step up. What I don't understand if why Long made an announcement now. Could have sat for a month and seen if felt better. Gotta wonder if he will graduate and try and play elsewhere next year.

Is it just me or is this just stupid speculation from someone who is clueless?

Uhh . . . Remember Yelk?

Look if you want to believe that a) the NCAA will grant the redshirt, b) that Naz will be healthy enough to play, and c) that he will even want to play without pretty much everyone other than Matt Thomas who he has been at Iowa State with, then go right ahead.

I feel pretty good about leaning harder on Cooke, not so much Ashton. Just because Cooke has performed pretty well, but we haven't seen much of Ashton.

Any football players with eligibility?

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

Actually not at all. Ask anyone around the team and Naz is one of the main guys.

He'll obviously be around Iowa State for the rest of the year, but you are kidding yourself if you think this isn't going to kill this team in a lot of ways.

For one thing, Jameel is going to have to completely stop whining about things.
Really in a interview McKay said that he's the emotional leader on the team but what does he know. Yes him not playing will hurt us. But it's definitely not the end of the world. Cooke and Burton will pick up the slack.

Not at all. Does he really want to play here without the people he came in with? Frankly, I think that is as likely as anything. He didn't say that he looked forward to coming back to Iowa State in that statement, did he?

Naz is a Cyclone. I don't see him transferring.
