Iowa State will miss Naz Mitrou-Long for his leadership and vocal presence as much as anything else. Matt Thomas more than capable of making shots. Hallice Cooke will also need to step up. What I don't understand if why Long made an announcement now. Could have sat for a month and seen if felt better. Gotta wonder if he will graduate and try and play elsewhere next year.

Is it just me or is this just stupid speculation from someone who is clueless?

Goodman isn't clueless, but he is clearly just speculating/trolling here.

Not at all. Does he really want to play here without the people he came in with? Frankly, I think that is as likely as anything. He didn't say that he looked forward to coming back to Iowa State in that statement, did he?

Just stop. We get it, you think every bad thing possible is going to happen. You don't have to repeat it a million times.

Lol, Naz isn't playing elsewhere. The timing is to insure he has the best possible chance for a medical redshirt, and also because it's probably clear that he isn't going to be medically right.

At least that quote will give the chicken littles something to panic about (on top of losing him this year).

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

Well, ****.

I doubt he'll get the medical redshirt either.

This really, really sucks.

For all of the people complaining about the previous 9 games, now is the time to panic.

It's highly unlikely he gets denied. He's not used his redshirt year...if he had it would be 50/50. But he hasn't and double hip surgery and only playing in 8 games..id say his odds are pretty good.

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

Tough for Naz Mitrou-Long but proud of him for making the smart decision. Staying positive here, but it came at great timing (albeit there is no great timing for this) because we get Burton. Matt Thomas has a new found confidence as well. Hopefully all the players will work hard to replace Naz. Would be glad to see Naz, Monte, Matt, Deonte, Hallice, and Stu all come back and play together next year.

Get well Naz! Hopefully you continue to be a strong motivator and leader while on the sidelines!

I think Jeff Goodman would be really good at a human version of Hungry Hungry Hippos... look at those jowls!

Because that is how these things go. And would he really want to play on next year's team?

I'm glad to see the bat **** crazy jsb is back.

This is almost as ******* stupid of a comment as your one about us hiring a position coach as our next head football coach.

Have you played any team sport any time in your life? Naz is a competitor, and a great one at that. There's no reason to think he won't get granted one if he applies. The only thing holding him back is if he physically won't be able to play next year, and he won't know that until next year.

We'll see. I'd put the odds at well over 75% that he doesn't play in another game for Iowa State.

My only slight worry about being granted the medical hardship waiver -- the injury has to be proven to be incapacitating. Could be some gray area since he had the capacity to play 8 games.

Don't worry -- the NCAA won't read this post.

Clearly this reporter is trolling or grabbing at straws for publicity. Naz is one of the most loyal people to Iowa State on that basketball team. My bet he stays here, rests up, have a monster year at ISU post Niang era, and try out for the NBA.

That's really ****** on Jeff's part to speculate like that.
