I would assume not, the buses are supposed to be checked and inspected before they go out every day, if not even at driver changes. I would assume there was no dents or anything to indicate something had happened. Whether the driver was aware is a different story though.

I was thinking along the lines of traces of DNA or threads of clothing.

All CyRides have cameras but not necessarily one with an outside view that might have caught what happened.

I do have a question and maybe it was answered earlier, just didnt see it. Would the bus have been making a right or left hand turn or going straight?

If this happened shortly after 7 a.m. at such a major intersection it's really surprising that there were no witnesses, either outside or on the bus. Very sad. Glad they got the guy.

It was raining very hard, and it was early morning during dead/finals week. Not too many people out and about.

Having driven buses in a major city, hitting someone at an intersection or bus stop is a constant fear. People often walk out in front of you or lean out as you pull into a bus stop. Often in major cities, there are grooves formed along the curb because of the frequent stops, so the buses actually lean into the people on the sidewalk sometimes. I could imagine the suspension noise while hitting a low point in the road could mask the sound and feel of hitting someone, especially in a heavy rain.

Also, it is difficult to know which bus would be on what schedule. Buses often switch routes at a "terminal point" or use major roads to get into position. It seems quite possible that this bus was not in-service, but moving into position at the Cy-Ride lot.

And on rainy days, you often get behind schedule, so you may have some pressure to hurry a bit.

Not where she was hit - but that whole street is a cluster**** during business hours. Students crossing at will, some standing inbetween the trees on the median waiting for a chance to dart across. Honestly surprised more accidents haven't happened.

Who is saying he ran a red light? Does it say that somewhere?

I know he's charged with "failure to obey a traffic control device," but that also could've been the walking person/hand thing on the side of stop lights that no one ever looks at. I've always thought those need to be placed in better spots.

Also, how do they know he failed to obey a traffic control device? Doesn't that mean there WAS a witness? Or are they computer timed? Or was there a camera the whole time?

Horrible event and to be honest I'm surprised more students aren't hit. Students on campus abuse the pedestrian power and cars usually stop but CyRide certainly doesn't wait on students

I didn't even know that a bus turned onto Ash, but I see the Gold route turns south onto Ash from Lincoln Way. I had assumed that the victim was hit by someone going eastbound on Lincoln Way, but it is conceivable that she was hit by someone turning on to Ash. Do we know if the victim might have been crossing Ash when hit (coming from Buchanan or some place east of Ash)?

This is horrible no matter if it was an accident or if he noticed and didn't do anything.

I hope it was just a horrible accident and he didn't know.

I almost hope he did know, for his sake. At least that way, if and when the guilt comes crashing down, he'd deserve it. Not that I would know, but I'd imagine finding out you were directly responsible for someone's death and you didn't know it at the time would seriously screw you up.

Based on the bus schedule I'd think it'd almost have to be the Gold route that turns left off of Lincoln Way to go down Ash. The story in the OP is kind of confusing though because it says she was hit trying to cross Lincoln Way but then said she was struck in the crosswalk of Ash.

The gold route is the only one that turns onto Ash, right? And that's a left turn.

I am curious (and will never know) how long they've at least had the idea that it was a CyRide and how they went about figuring it all out.

Could have hit her with one of the mirrors. I hate to drive there in a car, let alone driving a bus. Students everywhere and a lot not paying attention.

I believe earlier reports said she was leaving Buchanan, where she lived, and crossing Ash.

CyRide reported "concerning" video two weeks ago to police. Also important: "At some point we believe he knew he struck her and he did not come forward and that is why we have charged him with the charges that we have".

Well all of this tells me they possibly have video evidence of what all went down when discussing the "failure to obey a traffic device" and them feeling very confident that he knew he did it.
