Nice writeup on the Spring QB players.

(1) Cannot imagine Park won't immediately be in the hunt for #2 in the fall, and might press Lanning for starting QB.

(2) Lanning will need at least 5-10% improvement in his completion percentage/accuracy.

(3) One of the walkon QB ought to be shifted to a new position.

A lot has been made of Lanning completion %. I just finished watching the Texas game where he completed well under 50%...yet I would say he had a really good game.

He was only a sophmore last year so I would expect the % to pick up. The great thing about him is that when he misses a throw it is always low. Love that. He missed numerous that he just rushed and they came out horribly. His passing ability 20 yds down the field is very good and should even get better.

I would be very surprised if park battles for the starting spot this year. Coming in as a QB and getting up to speed when he hasn't played football in over a year would be tough. The next year will be a lot better measurement between him and Lanning

Lanning just needs more timing routes. I think he will be awesome after he gets the mechanics down. Once he can throw 5 yards as well as he throws 40 yds then we will see what he can do. Park is going to be WAY too far behind to make a run at the starting position right out of the gates, but of course never say never. I think Noland is getting down played but from what I hear this kid is really pushing to play this year. Making his own plays to show Campbell, going out of his way to impress and working very hard with an eager beaver attitude. Don't under estimate that kind of person. Excited for this next season. Can't wait actually.

Most any coach that has watched film of Lanning throwing the ball into the ground (when the game was on the line) will be looking for QB options. That is why Noland and Park were brought in...

They were brought in because we had 2 scholarship QB's, one of which we know nothing about.

I have a feeling Jacob Park is either going to come in and win the job and dominate, or never contribute.

Boom or bust.

With his apparent talent, you don't just fall into mediocrity.

I would agree with this. It will be either Lanning with Noland being the future OR Park with Noland being the future. Either way - I believe Noland is the best long term guy - he is just too young to be playing Big 12 football right now. Not bad for 3rd or 4th on the depth chart, however. Probably the best 3rd/4th stringer in ISU history ;)

Park is in a tough situation. He likely won't be able to win the starting job this year because of getting here late. Then it will be tough The next year because you will have a senior in Lanning. After that you will have a Junior/redshirt soph in Zeb to compete with. If he does win it at some point, it probably means really good things moving forward

If Park starts is because Lanning gets hurt. But there's a good chance that if that happens, Lanning wouldn't get the job back. Parks the better talent, but just won't have enough time to get the system down. And most coaches tend to go with the experienced starter at QB.

I suspect that Lanning and Parks will take snaps in most every game this year barring injury.

Yes, I remember you telling us Campbell likes to play multiple quarterbacks which is good, especially when a team is always one missed block on the blind side away from losing a starter. Did you say Toledo played 5 QBs last year- mostly due to injury?

They were brought in because Lanning is a Rhoads guy, not a Campbell guy. CMC brought in players that he believes are Big12 caliber players and that fit what he wants to do. Whether that means something bad for Lanning or not, who knows, but make no mistake about it, CMC brought in guys he thought could compete to start.

Or you fix the very clear mechanics issue which is a very easy fix.

So what happens to Dom D? Does he leave the program since he is being recruited over?

You have to think Dom D would be looking around for a different opportunity sometime.

I don't think I'd give up on him just yet.

I'd also note that Lanning was just slightly less productive than Ely at Toledo last year. That was a sophomore vs a senior as well so people thinking Lanning is going to just be replaced are probably jumping the gun. Sure, Park could come in here and blow the doors off everyone but I kind of doubt it.

If Park wins the job, Lanning could move to that H Back position. That'd be really good for us. It means our starting qb has been displaced and Lanning looks like a natural H back.

Best thing I've heard in a while :)
