We deserved to lose. We lost for the exact same reason we have lost our other 11 games, we had a very poor defense. As cool as it was that we hit the sweet 16, we didn't beat any team of consequence in the last two months. George, as usual, was amazing. But also, as usual, we couldn't get there against good competition.

I fear for next year. Unless we find a special talent and hire someone that can teach average defense, than we won't win 5 conference games. Mark it down

If that means you will leave, I will take that. The teams we beat both had better RPIs that the two UVA beat. Get a clue.

Go back and read the post. Nader took 4 shots. 4. That is not enough. It could have been VA defense or us just trying to push it inside and not trying to kick it out. When we got pressured we just didnt seem to get the ball to the wings like I thought we needed. I AM NOT BLAMING ANYONE. Just making an observation.

Nader started the game with 2 nice aggressive drives, wasn't able to finish them. Then didn't have much the rest of the game. We missed like3-4 bunnies those first five minutes, and were never able to over come it.

I get that. And there were some bad calls in this game. But if you follow every game thread here, it's the "worst officiated game in history". Newsflash - the refs aren't out to get us and we don't get screwed every single game. There are bad call, both ways, in every game. And people want to blame them instead of our defense, rebounding, or anyone not named Georges stepping up offensively.

I get what you're saying, but I didn't see a lot of "bad calls" against Virginia tonight. I follow a the threads, and I follow a lot of non ISU games. It's not that complicated.

Yes, UVA was hot early, but sh###y calls against ISU did hurt them. Refs are humans. They know which team is favored. They know the point spread. They know the score. They know who has momentum. They feel the crowd. They know when they can call meaningless fouls on a team before the other team nails a momentum changing(or continuing) shot. They hear the coaches. They know who the stars are (which blows my mind with the fouls on Niang). They know. They're not robots.

Virginia is a damn good team though. They played really well tonight, and I think they could win it all(Nothing new for ISU, losing to the eventual champ.)

It was our own fault we got down by 17 points right off the bat. But the refs had a lot to do with us not being able to come all the way back IMO.... and that is just the facts.

True, we weren't making enough plays on either end, but we were handcuffed. They called two very iffy illegal screens on Niang that Virginia was getting away with on their end all night, and one foul on Niang on a blocked shot that was all ball. Niang having to sit because of these fouls killed us, not to mention when he was in there he couldn't play aggressively at all. If you don't think that affected us, you don't know basketball.

Then late in the game, Niang drives and gets knocked down to the ground..... no call. Announcers say... "great steal by Virginia!". Unreal. And how about Burton's block? Great block..... foul called. It was far from a fair fight.

Virginia is the better team, don't get me wrong, but any chance at a comeback wasn't going to be allowed by these refs tonight.

A backcourt that will return Monte (probably), Naz, Matt Thomas, and bringing in a post JUCO that held offers from Kansas and Arizona. We'll be a tournament team again, mark it down.

Seriously? We should have one of the best, if not the best, backcourts in the nation. Want to make a wager on that claim? :twitcy:

We were out-coached and out played - except for GN. The calls were bad, but that didn't change the outcome. Niang is the best definition of an over-achiever I have ever seen. Thomas played a great game too. He even defended under the rim a few times. I think MT will be all Big12 next year. Monte seems to have been struggling for a while now. He started the season playing really well. Burton is undisciplined but gives 110%. Georges has gotten better this year on defense and rebounding. I hope to be cheering for him in the NBA. I also think we will make the dance next season, but we have a lot to learn about rebounding and defense.

If Niang doesn't get a shot in the NBA it's a joke. The best defense in college basketball couldn't slow him down. He's a better player than 95% of the guys who will be drafted this year. I can't wait to see the 40-50 busts that teams pick because they can't tell the difference between athleticism and actual basketball skill.

Can't believe how bad the refs were at certain points during the game. Not at all why we lost but the refs certainly didnt help. Three and ones for Virginia when our player didnt even touch the Virginia player, and the over and back right in front of the refs. Should have been a closer game if we had gotten a few calls to go our way.

At the game. Terrible refs absolutely made a difference. Two times we were building mo and ridiculous calls stopped it.
ya we caught up when several in a row were called on UVA. Had a sick feeling that refs were going to hit the make up mode button. Asked my wife who they were going to call a foul on. Split second later Nader gets one and in less than a minute Georges gets his fourth. When you can predict the officials are going to make certain calls based on game situation, it is clear they are calling the game through a preconceived prism. Is it too much to ask that each play be called on its own merits?

UVA exposed every flaw we had-RIP 2016. Hope next year we can defend and rebound better to offset the loss of offense. Thanks to all the seniors!

Only one team is going to end the year happy. Disappointed it all had to come to an end but damn proud of these guys. Virginia is an excellent team, those first 10 minutes were the difference in the game.
