The things that made Fred so loved in Ames are the same things hurting him now. Basically, he's a change agent - somebody that represents hope even though they don't necessarily have anything to point to as proof in the meantime.

His young looks and demeanor play well when you're already loved; but going into an NBA gig where you're replacing somebody that most people respected, without direct NBA coaching experience, following a previously failed ISU to Chicago path, comes across more as arrogance and entitlement to many fans.

I think Fred is very smart, and absolutely considered all the basketball related aspects of the Bulls job. However, sometimes I wonder if he wasn't a little too quick to make the move without really analyzing the perception components of this particular move. His persona was a bad fit from the get-go and he was going to be working against impossible expectations all while having little to no time to build critical player or fan support to carry through the tough times.

He also doesn't like exerting authority or giving ultimatums to players. He "appeals" to players to exert effort, he doesn't demand it.
If this was someone else, without ISU ties, most of the posters here would say he's in over his head.

He'd be a great fit for the Cavs. Too bad he didn't take that job when offered, but that was also like a month or two before James made his return and before they had Love/Smith/Shump...

LeBron would have had him gone already if the reports that the Bulls don't practice hard enough from their own players were true.

I heard he reportedly interviewed with the Cavs when they hired Blatt, before anyone knew LeBron was going back to Cleveland. With test and interviewing for the Golden State job, he got a raw deal outta the 3 he probably could've had.

yes, but if he's having trouble with rose and butler, lebron would eat him and spit him out.

Absolutely not. LeBron would walk all over him. The Cavs don't have the organizational structure to stand up to LeBron. Miami did, Riley ran **** down there and that didn't change when LeBron showed up. Plus taking the Cavs job is championship or bust, Fred hasn't shown anything that would indicate he's ready to go head to head with Popovich or Kerr come June.

Old beat up roster doesn't want to listen to a rookie coach. Fred needed a young roster

I really think there is some truth to this. Being a younger guy at the college level was a positive for connecting with recruits, but going into a veteran, established team w/ expectations in Chicago didn't work how anyone expected.

This actually sounds very believable considering everything. wtf does he do now? Collect the checks and be miserable for next couple years? What a cluster for him and ISU.

This doesn't sound believable at all. I highly doubt he talks to ISU donors unless they are family friends. Why is it a cluster for ISU?

Edit: If you are being sarcastic, i clearly missed it.

Because if he wouldn't have made the move to Chicago isu would've most likely gotten some recruits that we've missed on which would've given us better results and he would still be coaching here building us into even better, national program. Huge opportunity that who knows when we will get again. I hope Prohm can do that but recruiting has to get much better.

Ouch... yeah, that is pretty much all I can come up with

The savagery of big market sports columnists is something to behold. The small market dudes mostly just fluff the the local teams but the big markets dudes are like sharks to any hint of blood in the water. The small market dudes are like plankton filter feeders.

I love Fred but I hate the Bulls and their fans. I tried cheering them on this year but I can't deal with them still living in the 90s. I wish he would've went to Minnesota. Our fans are happy to be above .500 and going to the playoffs.

The Wolves job is open every couple of years, so no worries, maybe next stop.

Chicago media is a lot nicer than New York from what I know.
