I mowed for the first time this year on Wednesday. None of my neighbors have mowed yet. Now, I have quite a few dandelions visible in my yard, while my neighbors don't. Why is that?
I have roughly 3.5 acres on a hectare plot that was parceled out about 12 years ago. I believe the dandelions are a "good thing", as their presence is somewhat related to all the good topsoil being removed when homes were built here, and the dandelions will eventually restore the nutrient balance to the crap soil/clay that was left, but I just hate them.
Again, why do I have visible dandelions while my neighbors don't? Is it because their longer grass hasn't allowed them to pop out yet? It's probably too late to do anything about them now, as I think you want to hit them with a pre emergent, but is there anything reletively inexpensive I can do next year, or do I just allow the circle of life go on for awhile?
