This will get tricky when he has a personal or institutional opinion, but votes as representative of the Big 12. Much better having Leath in that situation than Boren, Gee, or some of the other knuckleheads.

What's the worst he could do in the new position? Cancel all football? Its not like he cancelled VEISHEA or anything.

I'm as ****** as the next ISU alum about VEISHEA being cancelled but it needed to go (or at least take a break) since idiots don't know how to party responsibly.

And by cancelling the daytime events, he didn't punish the idiots partying irresponsibly. He punished the students & faculty & staff who put in tons of time, effort & money on their displays, who depend on income from Veishea food booths to fund their club activities for a good portion of the year, who spent hours planning and promoting the daily events, who spent quite a bit of money on ingredients for foods they wouldn't be able to sell...

Color me unimpressed with the wisdom of the decision.

Seems that most everybody has survived the cancellation of VEISHEA. Might just be time to move on...

I could also support Leath cancelling the NCAA...

OOh, Leath thread! I wondered if this would turn into a rant about Bubu or VEISHEA, or perhaps Prohm hiring (admittedly that one's dying down). I see we're going with VEISHEA. Carry on.

You don't work much with student clubs, do you?

I was on VEISHEA committees 3 out of my four years and I think it needed to go. Cancelling the official daytime activities was the only way they could stop the unofficial nighttime parties. I really don't get the people who blame Leath for this, he did what he had to do.

I agree. I think back to what would president Geoffroy would have done. Since Geoffroy already canceled it for one year, I don't see how he couldn't put a ban on this too if he were in Leaths shoes.

The damage done seems pretty minimal to me to cancel a over 100 year event..look at all the riots and crap across this country at events..don't see them being cancelled forever. The first 2 riots were mostly out of town idiots and hicks anyway..I was there.

Some cars were flipped and light poles ripped out...Ooooo..big time war zone..gimme a break..that's an every day event in some cities.

Some kid almost died in the riot, and it seemed like somebody died every other year. It's not about property damage.

(am I doing this right? I always feel like I miss out on these fights because I don't get all worked up, so I'm going to try and get in on this one)

Exaggerate much? 1 (maybe 2 deaths) since 1922 only seems like "every other year" in a fantasy world.

From my recollection there has only been 1 death (a stabbing in 1997 associated with VEISHEA). The guy falling from the building in 2012 was determined to not be caused by VEISHEA.
