Still dont' see a problem with playing two qb's if they are close, which only the coaches know right now. Yes Joel made a huge mistake by putting it up for grabs when we had the late lead, but he'll learn from it. If not it will and should cost him and we may need another qb in there at least at crunch time. Thats' where Lanning and Park could complement each other and if they do I just don't see any problem with playing two qb's and use their strengths in the right game situations, and/or go with the hot hand. That may take a few games to determine but what do we have to lose. We're basically building for the future anyway. Now if Joel plays great and we knock off the squawks tomorrow, never mind.
I suggest they must not be close right now because CMC has played two QB and a wildcat QB all in one game before.

You really took the church league thing and ran with it. But it's a good point. Park has been away from football for a long time, and he might not be totally ready yet.
And even if you think Lanning lost the job on Saturday (I don't), that's only one part of it. If Park hasn't earned the opportunity then it's just change for the sake of change. And if he struggles and they go back to Lanning then they've destroyed the confidence of two young quarterbacks. And I think we've all had our fill of that. If Park plays, it should only be due to injury or because he has shown the staff that he's the better option.
Park came back to play, not sit on the bench.

Definitely taking that part with a grain of salt. He picked ISU over Alabama for a pretty obvious reason to me: chances of actually playing.
I was fortunate enough to tailgate next to jacob park's parents at the uni game. I ended up talking to them for a bit and his brother and mom did say that Alabama wanted him.

Joel Lanning doesn't have the talent to start at any other Big12 school. Jacob Park does.

There is a reason the staff wants him to get snaps... You don't do that with just any "backup" QB. When he's ready, he's the best option. Obviously you can't just throw a QB out there who isn't ready.
You've seen Jacob Park play a lot I take it?

I know you guys are enjoying ripping on Rustshack. Understood. We all want to support the direction our coaches are taking.

I have zero contacts, and have never seen Park play. But I do know this - the ONLY times ISU football has succeeded is when we've had a top half Big 12 QB or better. From what I've seen of Lanning, he is not that guy. Maybe he can develop somehow into a passer - and to be honest, despite his huge blunders against UNI - I was actually encouraged by his progress.

That said, my prediction is that Park will get increasing minutes this year. He may not even be named the starter next year, but I fully expect him to get more than half the minutes. From everything I've read it sounds like he has the potential to be that top half QB we've been waiting for. And if you don't think Campbell and staff aren't going to try to nurture and develop that you're mistaken.

QB doesn't matter as a whole for success.

Need the plan to be fully understood by the whole offense, and the plan to be working.

It's week 2 of a new coaching regime. That's not happening yet.

Agree with a lot of your post. Haven't seen Park play at all. Have seen Lanning. At times Lanning has done pretty well. Sometimes not. Could be the merry-go-round of OC's that he has had. Lanning does have some potential. I do see where his ceiling is kind of limited. His recognition of defenses and coverage is sometimes troubling. I am hopeful.

It kind of sounds like Park is more of a passer. I would actually like to see Park used behind center and not in the shotgun for some different looks. And run play action.

We likely move to a power run game.

Tell that to Texas. They've had a mediocre QB the last two years and surrounded him with 4 and 5 star athletes. And they sucked. Hell - we beat them 24-0!!!!!

They bring in a true freshman that has the skills - and they knock off top 10 Notre Dame week one.

QB is far and away the most important position on the field. It can't guarantee a high level of success, but it sure as hell can put a ceiling on it.

Park looks a lot better in practice, there's a decent chance he can do it in a game too. He has the elite arm that has more potential to win a game at the end.

Well we may find out if you are right...That was the complaint at Georgia with Park..He looked great in practice but when the lights went on not as good..of course he was a true freshman so...and I'm talking about spring game etc..he never played in a real game.

Park isn't as good at running the zone read as Lanning IMO..So it's a bit of give and take with Park.

I don't understand this comment ... if he has never played in a college game because he redshirted, how does anybody know this? Surely not basing it on the Spring Game alone?

Did you know him in high school or something like that?
