What was Kirk Ferentz's record his first year at Iowa?

What was Ferentz's record his first year at Iowa? How about Bill Snyder, what was his record his first year at K-State? Both of those coaches went to school, took their lumps and learned their lessons well. It takes time to turn around a football program. I believe that over time Coach Campbell will build a winning program at Iowa State. Go Cyclones!

Would you like me to give you a list of coaches who had terrible first years and turned out to just be terrible? Please let me know if so, it will take several days to compile, so I'll need to allocate time.

Also could you include what the record from the previous season of the team they took over.
Its one thing taking over a 10-2 team, another thing taking over a trash truck

This thread is like a 2012 marketing effort from the AD......it's 2016 now. Most people have awoken and smelled the coffee on the social media manipulation. Snowden man.

Well you are entitled to your opinion, but then again, it's a fact that Jim Caldwell at Wake Forest went 2-9 in his first year and eventually finished with a 26-63 record. I believe Coach Campbell is capable of doing likewise at ISU.

History has shown that it's unlikely that Campbell will be as successful as KF or Snyder, but there's a first time for everything I guess.

Iowa and K-State weren't that much alike because Ferentz had a lot more recent football tradition to sell.

Our situation resembles K-State, and the odds of that are similar to hitting the lottery.

Let's not compare situations here. Fry had quit recruiting his last few years. Those Iowa teams were as low on talent as any team that has ever taken the field within the state of Iowa. CMC took over a program with a coach that was doing his best (which wasn't good enough) to win games before being let go. I think Campbell will be fine as long as we don't see a number of prospects drop ISU at the end to kill this recruiting class.

If you want to fire a coach after two games, then you are an idiot.
Just to be clear I don't want to fire Campbell, it's just a ridiculous argument to say you think Campbell will succeed because two out of hundreds succeeded. I am just exaggerating to make it clear to the op how ridiculous his argument is.

Well you are entitled to your opinion, but then again, it's a fact that both Ferentz at Iowa and Snyder at K-State were 1-10 in their first seasons and they both went on to turn those programs around. I believe Coach Campbell is capable of doing likewise at ISU.

He is capable, but I can't get over the feeling that they'll be out of here as soon as they have a 8-5 season.

Still too small of a sample size to conclude anything about this staff. They took over a program that had 8 wins in three seasons. Iowa at least had a program with some history when KF stepped in. Just want to see some creativity the rest of the year. Put the best athletes on the field and get reps for guys that are going to be difference makers going forward. Need to find a QB. Take a look at all of them.

Testifying
Snyder was able to do it with a ton of JUCOs, then got his guys to buy in. He also is about as fundamental as you can get as a coach.
