In your opinion, who on that list would be starting this season? Serious question, I'm not trying to be a díck
Because he got moved down the depth chart likely because he can't cover anyone. I'm still pretty disappointed this staff couldn't figure out how to use him. He may have been the difference Saturday.
I don't know about started but Montgomery, Harris and Wesley would have seen a lot of time at WR. Rodgers and Mutcherson would have potentially started. Say what you want about RHoads' staff but they could find DBs. Bevins and Cousins would have had a good opportunity to start as well.
I don't know about starting but all of these guys could have had some minutes this year. It's also mostly a list of attitude problems, where the rest were talent problems. It's quite a list of recruiting misses regardless.
Recruiting character sounds like feel good fluff but it matters in the long run.
He was moved down the depth chart because he couldn't pick up the scheme. Same issues he had his first year here. Physical talent is there, but physical talent doesn't help if you are never in the right spot. Agreed he would have been a big help yesterday, but he can become a liability against pass-first teams.

The guys that Trey listed in his comments might not be starting, but there are at least 5-7 guys on the original list that would contribute significant minutes IMO. I'm also going to speculate that with a new staff and new position coaching techniques, perhaps the light would have come on for some others to flourish.
This team in week 1 and week 2 could have used all the help they could have got. Barring injuries, this team now is probably OK to at least compete going forward. Some of those missing upperclass guys IMO could have come in and started right away just based on physical growth as older players.
Here's the thing with Jordan Harris in the run game: He will almost always occupy a blocker at worst. The guys that are there right now might be in the right spot but they seem, at first glance, very tentative and very easy to block because they will stop moving. Harris was a torpedo. He wasn't always right but when he was wrong, he was wrong aggressively. When he was right, he killed plays. Harvey and Northrup are the only LBs on this team who can kill plays like he did. I just wish they could have found a way to use him even in limited snaps as a guy at the LOS. I think it was just a bad piece of roster management given there were limited bodies.
My theory on MLBs is that either they have instincts or don't and when you are playing in this league, if you have to think, it doesn't matter if you come to the right conclusion.
I agree, it would be great to have him right now. From my understanding, it was totally his decision to move on. Coaching staff still wanted him, but he would be behind Harvey and he wanted to be on the field as much as possible for is final season. Can't blame him for wanting that, but it sure would've been nice if he stayed, especially for these first few games.
The problem was going to come when we hit the passing Big 12 teams. Missing aggressively in the run game, you still have a chance to blow things up and a player behind you can limit the damage. Missing aggressively in coverage against a good passing team is quite often a touchdown.
He is on 2016 roster. Wouldn't suprise me to see him switch positions or transfer out given the youth we have at running back.

IMHO, I feel that Mutcherson is the best college talent on this list.
That guy was a physical freak and a tackling machine. He would definitely be starting opposite of KCM and would upgrade our defensive backfield, especially in the run game/open field tackling.
Montgomery is probably the 2nd most talented , IMO. He would have been a great player if he was more mentally tough.

What a sobering list...especially all the guys who apparently are no longer on FB rosters.
Man, this list is pretty painful. Roughly 4 guys out of this entire list went on to make notable accomplishments thus far.
What I struggle to understand is how coaches can't get a scheme in place for people like Harris and Mutcherson. You can simplify it for them an adjust around it. Troy Davis wasn't an academic All-American... There are elite players at the top programs that have trouble learning concepts but still manage to be difference makers.
