I wonder if Lanning switches positions for next season?

Keep Lanning at QB. Lannning throws a pretty good deep ball. We burned TTU when Lanning threw deep and they were expecting another run.

Park is a good QB and throws well. Lanning gives us a whole other dimension. That makes us difficult to prepare for. Park and Lanning seem to be supportive of each other and having both play seems to be working. I actually like how Campbell is not afraid to mix it up on the same series and move the 2 QB's in and out. Both guys seem to be okay with it and know they will play.

Johnny Majors had a similar situation when he was here. At quarterback he had George Amundsen (So) and Dean Carlson (Jr). Both were tall and effective. On occasion Majors did put both of them on the field at the same time for trick plays. Johnny liked trick plays and put in a new one every game.

The next year Majors moved Amundsen to running back and George became ISU's first 1,000 yard rusher.(in 10 games no less). For Amundsen's final year he returned to quarterback fooling all the pre-season polls that had George pegged as a top Big 8 back.

When Amundsen played in an All-Star game after the season, he played every offensive position except one (I don't recall which one that was) to showcase his versatility. He did end up being drafted in the first round as a running back.. He did play professionally for a few years.

If I recall correctly I think Dean Carlson worked his way into a NFL career at quarterback for St. Louis. After the NFL I think Dean became a sports announcer for one of the St. Louis TV stations. My memory is more hazy on Carlson.

I don't think he will change positions but I think they will continue to find more and more creative ways to get him the ball.

This is what I think. I can't see a formal "you are now an H Back" position change. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the staff asked him to work on his receiving skills a bit this off-season. He can come in and run or pass, as he does now, or as a wrinkle leave him and Park and flex him out as a receiver/TE once and a while. He's clearly a weapon, and I imagine we will see him getting touches in various parts of the field next year.

Earle Bruce had a similar situation with Wayne Stanley and Buddy Hardeman. Both played QB. And Hardeman played some RB as well.

I just don't see Lanning moving from the QB position. At RB, I would rather have one of our RB's back there. Plus I do not see Lanning running from that position as it is completely different that running from the QB position.

Noland will be RS Freshman next year. IMO, the staff is probably more comfortable keeping Lanning at QB.

Wasn't Noland in the mix prior to getting injured?
Honestly, Lanning is a huge weapon, finding a way to have him on the field then switchihimto Wildcat/QB w/o allowing giving the defense a chance to sub could cause serious damage to Big XII defenses.

This staff has an entire offseason to come up with creative ways to make the two headed monster work. Across the board, we have seen how they can evaluate, coach up and plug in talent. Now they have a full season of film of guys running their system. At the QB position, and several others, I expect to see some interesting things coming out of the gate in 2017.

I think having 2 different style of QB rotating in who are equally as good and understand the offense enough, can make preparation a nightmare for an opponent....

You might want to dial it back some on expectations since it's getting to be a little unfair to Lanning. Lanning just had the game of his life and isn't going to be doing this every weekend. Looking forward to see how it all fits together next year with Park having a season under his belt and the staff knowing better what they have from our QB's running their offense in actual game situations versus practice.

Oh, and beat WVU!

My thoughts exactly. Manning will have an entire offseason to figure out how to max out Lanning's unique skill set. I think next year you'll see times with him under center and times with him and Park both on the field. As long as the players buy in, it puts their best playmakers on the field and gives defenses something to think about.

I think part of his success is the defense has to respect the pass to some degree when he lines up at QB. If he lined up at RB with Park the defense can treat him like any other RB except for rolling out on a pass. And in that case we lose a blocker. Until teams stop the current what we use him why change??

TT stats - 17 carries for 173 yards and 5 TD + 3 of 4 passing for 51 yards. Why change?

I don't know much about the Wildcat (maybe I don't need to, it's pretty simple, isn't it?). So, when Joel is in the game now and he runs on a designed call, isn't that pretty much a Wildcat play? Or, maybe I'm missing something?

The dude is loaded with talent. Would be nice to have him and Park on the field at the same time. He is a utility guy like Ryen. If we lose Lazard to the NFL, I would love to see Lanning at h-back or tight end opposite of Chase Allen.
I notice he is beginning to run like the KSU QB's. Hesitates in the backfield, looks for an opening, then runs like hell through it.

WIsh our running backs would bounce to the opening/outside more, when the middle is clogged.

I like how it's become a system in place, everyone knows it's coming, and it still works.

And it's seeing a 2nd season next year with what should eventually be a better Oline and experience with the skills.

The last five games I've been watching the first offensive huddle to see which QB will start. That has to make things a bit challenging for opponents. Almost like they have to scheme for two different teams during the week.

I am someone who really would prefer choosing one QB and going with it but Saturday was a lot of proof that both guys need to play.
