Friday OT #2 - Something 'bout that work, work, work, work, work, work

I babysat as my very first source of income, and did a whole lot of it - I was buying all of my own clothes by 8th grade. My first "official" job was at the Casey's in Grand Junction - it was probably not a super-safe choice to close that store at 11 pm on school nights.
I worked at the school daycare from my sophmore year of high school until I graduated from college. It was an awesome job. It paid between $13-14/ hour, you could wear whatever you wanted (within reason), the daycare was only open Monday-Friday and closed at 5:30, so it never interfered with your social life. During the school year I'd take a group of kids to the gym and play sports, and during the summer we'd spend alot of each day at the pool. It was an awesome job.
Paper boy for the local paper back when most people still got the paper at home. I think I had something like 70 houses on my route. One hour a day after school and Saturday mornings. Fond memories of that time.
Well I think I first had a shovel put in my hand about 3 or 4 to clean up pig pens. I still like to scoop poop, I find it relaxing and is a pretty good work out.

dipping cows or baling or feeding calves for first non-paid "job". Don't know if keeping track of the kitten herd counts as work

It was in Grand Junction you were fine. unless you're talking about the study hours you gave up.
When I was younger I delivered papers for the Omaha World Herald. I also babysat a lot during that time (my mom did in home daycare so the parents wanted me for weekends).
My first official W2 job was Hy-Vee. Started as a bagger when I was a freshman in high school, worked there through high school and the summer between fresh/soph year at ISU. Worked Dairy dept mostly. Great times!
I was hired by Subway and Hy-Vee on the same day, glad I chose Hy-Vee. This was a small town hy-vee, so it was fun and casual.

Imagine if you babysat now. It's insane what kids get these days for it, I got jack **** for pay.

Luckily the town cop was just awesome, and always came to make sure I was safe at close.
YES. I remember thinking I was getting a good deal if I somehow broke $4/hr for three kids. Now that crap costs me, like, $15/hr for two kids.

Farm chores was my first job, you just got more of them the older you got. 1st paid job was walking beans for a neighbor, had to pull or hoe them, no corn knife for that guy. We got to use corn knives on our own farm. Remember when round up 1st came out and could just walk the row and squirt the weeds, thought it was the bees knees.
I also was a lifeguard, starting the summer before my freshman year of high school.

Picked strawberries at a local farmer's pick-your-own strawberry patch. A mom & pop operation, they had a couple acres of strawberries, you could pick your own or buy picked berries for a small premium. I was 12 or so, and got paid by the pound in cash. I loved that job because I was my own boss - set my own hours, my own breaks, 2 minute bike ride between home and the patch, the work was easy, and I was paid well. I quickly figured out I could make around $8 an hour if I was efficient with my time - keep in mind this was early 90's money and I had zero bills. One of the owners still reminds my mom of what a good strawberry picker I was. Best. Job. Ever.
