@mj4cy has had a ton of good thread ideas lately:

We always seem to talk about the negatives of flying or airports, but what is your favorite airport to fly in/out of or through and why?

Any airport when I'm going home to Iowa because I'm going home.

Outside of that, I've really liked flying through Atlanta and Heathrow

That's really interesting, because Atlanta brings out my rage! (See the gum-throwing story that @Mr Janny squealed on me.)

I like how clean Minneapolis/St Paul is. I haven't had any bad experiences in Sky Harbor.

There are two airports in Montreal - Mirabel and Dorbal, I think. They were gorgeous, but getting to the right one was a ***** because all of the signs were in French.

Denver - because the gates seem to be laid out with some intelligent thought. (Unlike O'Hare, where it always seems like your connecting flight's gate is about two miles away!) Also, the Denver airport has a fantastic tequila bar.

I can't say I have a favorite airport but Pittsburgh's airport is a shopping mall, so it's like you're barely even in an airport.

Definitely Denver. I've been there 6 times in the past couple years or so and don't think I've ever had a delay more than a few minutes. Security has never taken more than 20-25 minutes, and getting from terminal to terminal is quick with the train in the middle. Also have never had to wait to get a shuttle to the rental car facility. The open tent-like feel in the main terminal makes you feel more relaxed while waiting for friends to come in from their flight. I also admit I probably like it because I'm usually there on my way to ski.

Downsides to Denver though are not enough outlets in some areas and it is quite a bit outside the city.

Also like Des Moines because I can leave my house in Ankeny and be waiting for my flight 45 minutes later after driving/parking/security ect.

MSP - good layout and balance between shopping mall and airport. And, if I get stuck there, I could just drive home.

ATL - nice, but the stores they have added really restrict space for walking

DET - Easy to get around

This will come as a shock to no one, but I love SFO. When you're on approach to land, you come in over the bay and you don't see the runway until you're barely above the ground. It's completely unnerving if you don't already know that's going to happen. But what I like most is when you walk outside for the first time and get big blast cool marine air. It's breezy, it's salty, it's refreshing, and it's something you don't get to experience in the midwest. The airport itself is fine. With all the freeway ramps, BART tracks, AirTrain, and other transportation infrastructure leading to the terminal areas, the outside looks like a bowl of concrete spaghetti. Once you know it, you can navigate just fine.

Best: DFW for sure, Sky Harbor, and the San Jose airport.

Honorable mention for the Nadi, Fiji airport, because well that means you are in Fiji. Plus the flights were awesome, and hanging out in the bar at the airport during the layover was a good time as their airport people enjoy their jobs unlike here.

Worst: Denver by far. Actually a decently layed out airport with things to do, but I've been stuck there overnight for different issues 3 of the 4 times I've traveled through there.

Last time I was in Miami, I loved their airport because of the Cuban food.
O'Hare is a given for worst but a sneaky terrible airport is Charlotte. A few Caribbean vacations I've had using Charlotte as a layover have been pretty nerve wracking.

KC gets blasted because of the lack of things to do, but if you live here and don't need to hang around it's super easy to get in and out of.

I've had good experiences at Denver, Orlando, Vegas and DFW. I've even had decent luck at Midway (bonus: you can watch tv in the apartments that are 30 feet from the plane as you land!)

Really, O'Hare has been the biggest pain in the ass.

O'Hare gets a lot of bad-mouthing (most of which is deserved, of course), but whenever I go there I have to go to the Berghoff and have their Cuban sandwich. They are to die for. Downside is having to shell out $9 for a bottle of beer to have with it. (Yeah, I know - living in Iowa spoils me!)

It's my home airport but MSP is pretty easy to figure out and, in spite of a couple of really long concourses, is easy to get through.

I like Reagan National. It's really convenient to DC and, once again, is really easy to figure out.

Aesthetically, I'd probably put O'hare at the top. However, with a 100% chance of your connecting flight being delayed, it really puts a damper on my O'hare ratings. If I need to connect, it is the one airport that I purposefully try to avoid.
