Not a fan of losing two top 10 prospects for a mediocre reliever who is gone after this year but I guess it worked with Chapman last year.

The #Cubs indeed very close to acquiring #Tigers reliever Justin Wilson, as @JonHeyman reported. Tigers will receive Candelario and others.

Just being top ten in a light farm system is pretty meaningless. I like Candelario but he's a back end of the top 100 kind of prospect. This is nothing like moving Gleyber last year, and Wilson is a lot better than mediocre and under contract for another year too.

Sounds like they think Wilson could be the closer next year if Davis walks in FA. Selfishly I would have liked to add a SP so I didn't need to watch Lackey, but I'll gladly take Wilson.

So Cubs will have to open a spot on the 40 man, and get rid of someone on the 25-man to accommodate this trade (obvious Caratini is going back to Iowa). Grimm makes the most sense, but has been pretty good as of late. Going to be a tough call no matter what way they go.

Solid trade, fills 2 needs and Candelario not only is blocked at 3B and 1b but he hasn't exactly hit when he has been up either. Cubs have some fringe guys on the 40 man that may never contribute at the big league level so I doubt who've they DFA will have much significance. Check the stats on Wilson, he's actually tougher on eighties than lefties and under control through arbitration for another year so yet another cost controlled pitcher added to the mix

It has to be Grimm right? Edwards is the only other guy with options and he's not going down.

Lackey has been great since the ASB.

You cant ask much more from a #5 than what he has given since the break.

Ride him through the end of the regular season and let him enjoy the ride from the dugout in the postseason.

Yeah when I posted that earlier I wasnt sure who had options and who didn't, but Grimm has to be the guy (unless someone goes to the DL), and thats a shame, because he has been much better.

He'll be back in September and have a shot to steal a playoff roster spot, Koji has been shaky lately. It's probably those two plus Rondon for two spots come October. Hopefully they all pitch well and make it a tough decision. Hell maybe Maples comes up and is lights out in September and makes an incredible run from high A to postseason MLB roster in one single year.

Now that this is official, who do we send down on the Active Roster to make room. I assume Rondon, Grimm or Koji..... Tough moves, that and Avil is swap for Caratini......

Rondon is out of options, and Koji has 5 years of service time so he can refuse an option.
