Not as exciting as a verbal denunciation, but Pitino's lawyer making noise:

Instead, Pitino's statement should read something like, "I am the HEAD Men's basketball coach at UL. As such, it is my DUTY to make sure that my program is run in accordance with the laws and guidelines that the NCAA and our beloved institution has laid out for us. Over the course of the past decade, members of my staff AND I, have made poor choices that run completely counter to what a respectable and successful program should represent. These decisions have given a 'black eye' to our university and to the sport of basketball in general. In regards to the current FBI investigation, I can plead that I knew nothing of what happened, that I did not directly participate in it, but, ultimately, it goes beyond the question of actual guilt. It is a question, perhaps, of complicity. As President Truman once said, "The buck stops here." I am the CEO, the head of this ship, and I take responsibility for having these disgraceful events transpire on my watch. It is with sadness that I resign my position as Head Men's Basketball Coach for the University of Louisville. I can only hope that from this travesty, reforms, both locally and nationally, will be implemented to clean up the blemish that has been left by me and others like me."

If Calipari comes out of this clean I'll be pissed. That slimeball left a trail of stink at every school he's been. Suddenly he's clean at Kentucky?! ********.
If you do it right you can be the beneficiary of such shoe company deals without breaking any rules. If a Nike guy just goes straight to the player, gives him $100k with no UK assistant involved in the process then UK has done nothing wrong. If the ncaa found out, they could take the Duke/Myron Piggie plea and claim they had no knowledge of it. Voila. They just have to tell the Nike guys to keep them and their assistant coaches out of the conversation directly.

I haven't read all 36 pages, but have we talked about Scott Drew and Baylor yet? They have been recruiting way above their weight for a long time. Not to mention their shall we say checkered past - both FB and BB.

This may touch 80% of schools when said and done, but surely Baylor seems a likely candidate...

The last 5 star recruit they got was Isaiah Austin back in 2012. I'd be surprised if anything is found on them.

So what you are telling us is that a KU assistant and a 5 star recruit are in a room along with a Nike guy. Then, the assistant closes his eyes, puts his fingers in his ears and goes "la..la..la..la..la"?

The teams that get the best recruits out of EYBl are Kentucky, Duke and Arizona...
I know people love to talk about Cal, but for those who haven't been paying attention, Duke has taken over as the top recruiting school for 5 star talent. It may be no coincidence that Capel is on staff when they did this. His program at OU was not clean.
Sweet Jesus that would be awesome.

Some of the ESPN guys would hang themselves if Duke got busted.

Fear not, good citizen. Even if the FBI arrested some assistants at Duke, UNC, KU, UK... NCAA would find a way to whitewash it. The bluebloods won't pay any price. Gotta keep that $1B Shining Moment contract money rolling in.

I think Jerry Tarkanian said something like "The NCAA is so mad at Kentucky for cheating that they are gonna give Cleveland State the death penalty". That about nails it.

Was Baylor in on him? Either way, that was a while ago. I don't think they're going to look that far back

Baylor hired his AAU coach. Wall was going to play for Calipari at Memphis, but ultimately went to Kentucky with him. Frank Haith at Miami was one of the other finalists.

This was back in 09. How far do you think they're going to go back?

It would all be blamed on a few dirty assistants. Head coaches, schools and the NCAA will find a way to distance themselves from the dirty. They had no knowledge, and the dirty assistants acted independently.
