I was told the food quality has gone down in recent years so I haven't been lately. That must not be the case?
Also, this is a little known gem of a restaurant in DM. I haven't been since moving back into the area but I highly recommend it. It's small and normally pretty full, especially on weekends.

I lived in the Beaverdale area my entire young life, and I didn't know that place was supposed to be good. Interesting.
Unrelated, I know the family that owns the crappy video store across the street. It's a dump and the family in question sucks.
Simon's is great. I haven't been in a while but need to get back there.
I was just thinking the same thing. The place is good and we haven't been there in a long time, time to make a trip. My wife still calls it J. Benjamins.
Simon's and Sonny's Pizza Bistro in Saylorville Township are two great little out of the way date night spots.

Mi Patria is the best and most underrated/underappreciated restaurant in Des Moines. Their Hornado Con Mote is incredible.
I consider myself kind of savvy with local joints in DM and have been to a ton of them but I haven't even heard of this place. Thanks for the suggestion.
I'm sure the place is great if you like Ecuadorian food. This place made me realize that I don't like Ecuadorian food.

You had the llapingachos, yes? What did you order, because I have yet to find something I wasn't rather fond of.
It's in West Des Moines behind Jethro's Bacon, Bacon, Bacon, Bacon, and Bacon. Right next to Michael's.
I would have to go with the Steak de burgo from Johnny's Steakhouse with a side of garlic mashed potatoes!
The Aoli California pizza at Simon's might be my choice. Pizza crust coated with olive oil with artichokes, tomatoes, spinach and 2 kinds of cheeses.
Actually, all pizza and pasta is top notch at this place. Hard to make a bad choice. Good craft beer on tap also!
