Give him another extension for a year, bump up to 2.75 mil plus incentives and a raise for coaching staff. Thus keeping the buyout at 9-10mil for another year. If he is successful next year. Pay him the bank, 3.5 mil which would put him in the upper half of the XII.
Ha, okay JP.

I wish it were that easy. Those numbers are low and adding to the buyout only happens if CMC wants it to. If we’re serious about keeping CMC it’ll be 4 million or thereabouts

People wanting a small extension or wanting to see how it plays out next year are crazy. The sooner it is done, the cheaper it gets for ISU.
Luckily even after next year the buyout would be bigger than anything paid to date.
The only reason you don't do a large extension now is if you aren't sure Campbell is the guy for the job. And honestly if you aren't sold I think you're crazy. There have been none of the stars aligning for this team. No senior loaded team that escapes injuries, no generational QB talent that carries the team, no soft schedule, and no wacky 5 TO games. This team is legit. This program is legitimate in a way it hasn't been for 40 years.
No worries on no negotiations yet. This staff will not get distracted. There's time during bowl prep for that.

All I know is that if JP allows Campbell to walk away without offering him everything he can possibly afford, JP's time here should end.... and I really like JP. Football is EVERYTHING for an Athletic Department. You can understand not handing Cael everything he wanted, because Wrestling doesn't even make money. But you let Campbell walk without practically breaking your bank account, then you get what you deserve.

With all that being said, I sincerely hope Campbell lives by the same words he preaches to his players. He always talks to them about today's society being selfish and wanting instant gratification and not wanting to work and take the long road needed. So if he up and leaves after this season, IMO, he's not a man of character and has been lying to his team all season. Sounds harsh, but it's true.

If I'm David Montgomery and Campbell up and leaves after this season, I walk into Campbell's office and say... "hey coach, so you've decided to be selfish and just go for instant gratification and leave us all behind, huh? Ok, so you've just been all talk this season, but you don't live up to your own words yourself? Got it."

There's a lot of assumptions baked into this post.

Yea...trading Ames for Lincoln...Nebraska. : 0

On top of that you trade a highly supportive fan base with low to reasonable expectations for a bunch of living in the past morons who expect NC's they'll never win again.

And you trade UT, OU, TCU rivalry games for Iowa & WI? An occasional OSU/ MI match-up.

Yea...sounds great.

Oh, and Tom Osbourne is still hovering over your shoulder the whole time while NU fans remind you daily how you're not Tom.

Are schools leaking info to gauge interest or are they just putting out names they have on a list? Seems to me there should be only one name on their list and it's Scott Frost. Maybe it's MC side drumming up interest to get a better contract, but I would think that he wouldn't need any help getting a bigger deal.

Honestly, if NU isn't at least looking into MC the AD isn't doing their job. One of the hottest coaches in the country just a few hours down the road? Unless they have another coach already ready to sign, and they don't, its almost an obligation.

Really when you look at the big picture I think Nebraska is one of the least desirable jobs in the nation, and for the reasons you state much less desirable than Iowa State, especially in the current state of things.

I think that all this talk is just talk. We don't have a clue of what is going on.I don't have any Faith in coaches word. If the right offer comes along he will take it. Love of isu didn't keep Fred and it won't keep Matt Campbell.

I would expect that 'sources close to Nebraska' are still stuck in the delusion that the Nebraska job is a position coaches with options would actually want. I think they honestly believe they have a chance at any coach in the country, which is going to lead to a lot of disappointment.

If they had any damn sense they'd go after Jason Candle. It's a hire they can actually make and I believe he would do an excellent job.

I get it but why are they making it public? Just to say we are doing our due diligence? I might have missed it but haven't seen anything about them going after Frost just a lot of people saying they should.

How many people think either after the game today or tomorrow there will be an announcement of a contract extension and raise. I really think we will see that, no real knowledge just my feeling of CMC and Pollard, how things will be done, and a little bit of faith mixed in for good measure.
