Reality of the situation:
- Your 'mental' discipline takes you further in life than your physical gifts.
- 99.9% of people's problems start with the person in the mirror.
- Social media is a cowards medium for posting criticism; which goes both ways. In other words, would people express harsh comments the same way face-to-face? Not likely. So, consider that when posting...OR reading.
- There are jerks in every crowd. Calling out the fans of Iowa State was a poor choice and one which, resoundingly, is incorrect. One needs look no further than the 'continued' support by ISU fans in light of a past which often has been difficult.
- You have to earn life. Life doesn't owe you a living.

Jacob: If what was published by the Register is correct, I am disappointed you threw the 'fans' under the bus. I'm available anytime you'd like to discuss this rationally.

The story I was told is that after the Texas game someone (a fan?) sent Matt Campbell a picture of Jacob Park smoking a bong. Because of this he was given a drug test on the Monday after Texas which he failed. Jacob did not react well to getting suspended which turned a short suspension into a leave of absence. Have no way to verify this, so take it with a grain of salt, but it fits with everything I have read.

The use of marijuana is viewed as no big deal by many but others see it as a huge problem. Seems Park was probably trying to toe the line but in the end it came down to a clash of cultures. I wish and hope for the best for him and his family.
I don't know what led to the drug test, but I also recall reading the Park didn't take well to the suspension which essentially lead to him being suspended for the rest of the season, and was told he could work his way back to the team next season. From what I saw/heard, he was well on his way to doing so. Not sure what changed, but also not to worried.

As soon as we saw that haircut we should have known.
I think these types of posts are the things he talks about.

With that said I think this situation clearly shows he needs some serious help with his life. Even with the types of posts I highlighted he has received a ton of support. I almost think you don’t release him just as an effort to get him the help he needs. The way this seems to have gone down the last thing he needs is football. I hope he gets that help and is able to live a normal life.

"The penalty for a positive test for a substance in the street drug class is withholding from competition for 50% of the season in all sports in which the student-athlete participates. A second positive test for a street drug results in the loss of a year of eligibility and withholding from participation for 365 days from the test."

Its ten percent of your season if you fail your second test for weed. You usually get a first strike that’s covered up and a warning.

Its just too bad Tommy didn't speak with someone from inside the program before he ran with the story.

Yeah, that's not a good look for Tommy.

It's one thing to get a good scoop, but to run with it without going to people in the program with the incendiary things Park said strikes me as unprofessional.

I wonder what Campbell thought when he read it.

If this were his first time, I would be upset with him. He obviously has a lot of personal issues that keep him from playing big time football. I don't know anything about Park personally, but it seems a pattern is emerging here.

I hope he doesn't think things will magically get better somewhere else and hope he finds some help with his personal issues. If he just tries to go it alone, I have a feeling his leaving a team will happen again.

With his ripping on ISU fans, I just feel like he hasn't grown up yet and his comments prove that point. If he wants to succeed, he has to look at himself and stop trying to place the blame on others. No one I knew wasn't hoping he'd be back.

He was attacked on this forum a bit shortly after his suspension. That might have set him off on his rant with the Register and for all I know he just read that stuff last week. It is what it is and I can about guarantee he has had similar issues and has problems dealing with reality. Hopefully he can figure it out and end up where he is happy. At least he brought us to 2-2!

Transferring for a third time, now with a family in tow, seems like it would exacerbate the already rough experience he's had. There must be some pretty rough feelings he now has towards fans/coaches/teammates etc. to not try and work it out.

Too bad for all parties involved imo. I was really hoping he would be back next season. There were reasons he was voted captain and named starter from day one.

Park has had numerous issues while at ISU(3+ strikes). ISU staff and fans have been extremely loyal to him and have provided additional assistance to help with some of those issues. It's too bad it's going to end this way.

Very mature to paint a whole fanbase by the actions of a few fans.

this will sound salty but Park's response gives a very clear picture as to why this "blue chip" recruit hasn't done a thing since high-school. When he grows up and learns that you are responsible for you, he might actually succeed. Having a baby doesn't make you a man or good at anything. It just adds to your challenges if you can't handle it.

FWIW, I never spoke to a single fan that wished anything but the best for this guy...and I hang out with some pretty pessimistic fans. That he chose to turn this on the fan base that does NOTHING but to cheer for an underdog makes it even more frustrating.

GTFO our campus, Park. You are officially not welcome here anymore. You're a cancer in any program and trying get your parting shot before you leave is bush-league.

Super sad situation all around. I (along with a ton of other people) was one of those that defended him at work, the bar, family get togethers, etc. Life is tough and unfortunately he is learning that all of your actions have consequences. Be a man, own up to it, but dont throw it back on everyone else because you cant handle the product of your own actions. Also, I feel bad for his family because he had a real shot at developing into a good player, potential NFL QB. Again, his actions of leaving Dodge will have implications that he cant yet see, and could really hurt his ability to support his family.

I haven't seen the "former Cyclones at other schools" thread pop up in a while . . . but generally, what's the ratio of those who transfer and go on to make an impact elsewhere vs. those who go on to see minimal impactful playing time? My gut says the ratio isn't favorable for this approach.

Having said that, I Wish Park the best. Hope it works out for the sake of him & his family.
