Newton played Oskaloosa last night, Osky has the big 6'10' recruit, and Sturtz put 44 on them. This kid can flat out play and I think ISU is missing on this kid. If he is near you go watch him. Gets to the basket, uses his body, very smart. He has played elite talent in AAU and does great every time. No, I'm not a relative of his- just someone who would like to see ISU continue success and I feel this kid is really really good.

One of the easiest ways to judge his college basketball potential is his scholarship offer list. If he played AAU coaches saw him and they have the best eyes for talent, especially this ISU staff.

Who has offered him a full ride?

Let me google this for you:

Nice player, but I think we have better ones we're going after. Maybe UNI bound?

So the guy has been seen by Drake but they haven't even offered yet, and you think Iowa State should give him a scholarship? That isn't how this works. Just because a guy can score in high school doesn't make him a division one player.

My son matched up with him in a scrimmage earlier this year. My son is 6-0 and a little over 150 lbs. Sturtz looked about an inch taller and maybe 10lbs bigger. He is a very solid player. I believe Newton is 4A but play mostly 3A competition. I would love to see him as a preferred walkon at ISU who could maybe work into a scholarship but I believe he will eventually get some mid-major or DII offers. I am surprised TJ or North Dakota haven't offered.

Sounds like a nice developmental player for a mid major. Great HS players aren't always great D-1 prospects.

This is how I feel about him. He'd be a home run to fill a walk on spot with opportunities to work his way into a scholarship but he's not someone we should offer right now.

AND the crowd could roar STUrtz when he came in the last 2 minutes of a blow out. I'm sold.

Is Sturtz a point or a SG? Is he a senior? TJ has Owen King coming in from Caledonia, MN in the '18 class to run the point and is really high on him.

VERY nice player but a P5 walk on right now. Could he emerge? I suppose but he is no Tyler Harris and he is not Jacolby Long when he was coming out of HS. I can see him at a D-2 or possibly a mid major but right now- the offers are not there.

Sure, if he wants to walk on I'd be all for it. But in the class of 2018, there is no way to give this kid a scholarship if one becomes available, especially when it looks like Tyler Harris is interested. Remember, Harris plays at a bigger school against better competition and just dropped 54 points recently. Oh yeah, he also has other scholarship offers and has a profile on 247.

Sturtz was the best player on the floor last night vs. Oskaloosa. He absolutely took over the game in the second half. Xavier Foster (as a soph.) may have been third behind Sturtz and Cole Henry. I am not sure that he will translate to a Power 5 school, but he is the type of kid that will end up at a school like UNI or Drake. He will continue to develop and in a few years we will all wonder why we don't recruit instate kids like that.

I’m surprised Iowa or UNI hasn’t offered. They’ve built their programs on similar guys.

What year? Who is recruiting him? What position does he play? Height and weight?

He's 6'4" and plays 1 or 2 on a 3A team in Iowa. He's very thin, but tough. Played QB on their fb team is was easily the bet player on the team. There are plenty of players who get missed by the majors- doesn't take long to see that- look at the NCAA tourney or NBA rosters for small school guys performing. I would recommend watching him a few times and then evaluate. Teams try to stop him and they can't- he scored 44 out his teams 53 pts with Osky having 6'9" and 6'10" inside. He ate up McCaffrey in the state tourney last year.
You don't have to agree, I'm throwing stats and facts out. He will be very good for someone.
