Been sick this week so I’m a little late getting started on this stuff, but wanted to post a few things I’ve compiled the past few days leading into the January cycle before the February signing period.
*** It sounds like the wide receiver spot will be Iowa State’s biggest focus throughout the month of January when it comes to the 2018 class. Four-star Joseph Scates seems to be the staff’s top choice at the position at this point, but I think there’s some stuff he has to clear up on his end before anything official can be done. I imagine we’ll start to get some more names in the coming weeks, but Scates will be the big one to keep an eye on in the immediate future.
*** I expect Iowa State to take at least one more defensive back in the 2018 class. Three-star safety Avonta Crim has locked in an official visit for the weekend of Jan. 27.
*** I’m sure a few more top names will come out in the next week or so, but those are just the primary 2018 things I’ve got right now. Iowa State still has 2-4 spots left in the class after signing 18 in the early period so still work to be done.
*** Other than that, the rest of the energy in January will be spent on making a serious push forward with the 2019 class. The Cyclones are already off to a fast start there compared to past classes and I imagine that will only continue in the coming weeks. I hope to have more on the efforts in 2019 over the weekend or early next week.
As always, recruiting is very fluid so stay tuned.
