I'm all on board for an 8 team playoff, but this is just kind of dumb. You can argue they deserved their shot, but I'm not sure you can argue they are the best team in America. That's an awful light schedule.

The problem is any non power 5 conference FBS team has no chance of winning a national title under the current format.

UCF just proved they can beat a very good SEC team on a neutral field (one that went 2-1 against the two teams in the title game).

If I was them I'd claim a national title too and hold a celebration during the Alabama vs. Georgia game. And also make an offer to play the winner on a neutral field any time they want.

Yes, it is time to unify the titles.

Does the UCF conference recognize their natty?

It will be interesting to see if any media honors their claim of a natty.

Isn't the same scenario possible for a power 5 conference team as well? A team that wins a P5 conference can STILL get left out....it doesn't matter if they're undefeated or not.

Until they go to a format where you qualify as opposed to being invited, this debate will rage on. I don't know how that happens for non P5 teams, but they surely can eliminate it for the P5s by expanding to 8 and allowing all five conference champs a spot.

I'm glad UCF is making noise about this. The P5 teams should be, too.

I officially recognize UCF's national championship. Would have been a better choice the Bama for the play offs.

You are wrong. Not many P5 teams have a shot at the title under the current formant. The most important item on your playoff resume is your school name. ISU could go 13-0 and get left out for an 10-2 Bama or OSU team.

I read that UCF won their bowl game against the team (Auburn) who beat both teams playing for the national championship! That is compelling evidence.
