The lack of defense is why I can't see this team winning any road games this year with the exception of maybe Texas because Texas's offense is so bad. Tech is a bit of a slump so they have an opportunity to get a big upset on Saturday.

No teams immune from completely bombing from time to time, especially on the road. Even our best teams had some real debacles.

One of the lessobsof this game is even a guy like Milker that has shot a poor % is going to knock down shots when there is not a late close out, but no closeout at all as happened in the first half. Even though the perimeter D was better in the second half (granted it was still not great) their shooters were comfortable and in a groove.

Poor effort, poor execution on defense, but time to learn what they can from it and flush it. TCU is a really good offensive team. Robinson was their best player down the stretch last year even before Fisher went out. He is damn good, and they create serious problems for defenses.

What? Texas just knocked off Tech, before that they beat TCU, scoring 90. I doubt they are too concerned about their offense.
But yes, I agree about our defense, or lack of.

Defense in basketball has a very significant mental/attitude component to it, in addition to the athletic and strategic components. ISU is lacking the mental component.

I don't like Huggy Bear's strategic approach to defense (foul, foul, and foul again, and make the officials do something about it), but I give him much credit for being a master of getting his players dialed in mentally to carry out his strategy. When WVU loses, it usually isn't because they were "lost" mentally on defense.

Two things I noticed, besides lack of being able to defend the p&r at all is our guards lateral movement was poor last night. Even when there wasn't a pick they were able to drive past our guards a fair amount of the time which leads to the second point Brase and Solo both need better discipline when their man is at the perimeter. They both hedge toward the lane to help when the guard gets burned, and while they may be effective in helping that leaves their man wide open with little time to close out for the 3.

That's true. And in ISU's case some of the problems can be attributed to the young guys learning what it takes and getting the right mindset. It's the breakdowns and mental lapses coming from the few guys with experience that drive me nuts. DJ, NWB, and Solomon Young have got to be the tone setters on defense.

Oh I thought they just built a new building. Must have just upgraded it.

Where did they have Fisher sitting last night? I'm not sure I've ever seen an injured player up talking to an usher instead of sitting on the bench with his teammates. That seemed really odd.

Yeah I thought that was odd to that he couldn't sit on the bench.

TCU's defense is bad. Better only than ISU's defense in the Big 12. They scored 78 in regulation. Texas beat Tech because Tech's offense has been putrid the last couple of games and Texas can play defense. Texas has the worst offense in the Big 12.

Maybe keeping him away from the court to avoid further injury to his knee? Sitting on the bench would put him in harm's way if someone tumbled out of bounds or ran into him. I don't know; just spitballing.

That would make as much sense as anything. I'm sure it's not like he was "banned" from the bench.

Wow, with the hangover I have from watching that game I should have gone ahead and just drank another 6 pack.

I think Prohms comments after the game to Walters summed it up. Team just needs to grow up. Love the kids and their talent but they need to bear down. Need a leader to show up and they need to start punching opponents in the mouth (I better be clear I mean figuratively with latest happenings on some courts). Maybe the guys are too nice. Do we have any thugs in inbound group?

We have a basketball culture that hasn’t really valued defense. I’m sure it’s a challenge for this staff, but hopefully their efforts start to get some results on that end.

A team this inexperienced against a very good team that’s very experienced? You are easily embarrassed.
Look, I get where you are coming from.

TCU averages 88 a game. Very good offensively.

But they shot 60% from the floor and could have scored 110 on us had they not taken their foot off of the gas pedal. Not to mention that was without their starting PG.

That was a poor effort from ISU. Not much intensity at all.

I agree they need a leader.

I have said I'm basically not overly concerned with wins and I'm not. However that effort gives me no incentive to actually watch them play this year. It was an embarrassment in there. The inability to guard a simple pick and roll was disturbing.

That's because he is injured. He's been playing through a knew problem for the last month or so.

Nick has been hobbled for a while, but his stat line has remained fairly high. TCU game was possibly his worst this season -- 4 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds. Granted, he played 30 minutes vs. TCU but averages closer to 38 per game. It could've just been off-night I hope he isn't aggravating his injury. (I admit this is a lot of speculating).
