Wham-o is the company that gave Walter Frederick Morrison's flying disk invention the name "Frisbee." So, I think your postulation seems quite valid. I can even imagine them making a flat-earth edition frisbee.

I think it's good for people to think for themselves, but there has to be a balance between that and trusting the intellect of people that are more well-versed on an issue than you. The best way to know if you can trust a person is to trust them.
