Is Next Year’s Team Honestly Going To Be Any Good?

I knew this wasn’t going to be an easy season, but it’s become a disaster very quickly. We have two games where we look like world beaters then go back to looking like scrubs against Baylor and Texas Tech tonight. This brings me to my ultimate question: is ISU really good to be as good as everyone thinks next season? Sure, we get Shayok, but we lose Jackson and most of our lineup next season is going to consist of the same guys that can’t put together any sort of consistent string of games. Our players don’t seem to be making any strides during this season, and, if anything, we are looking worse as the season goes on. We have no bench, guys like Lewis seem like they won’t contribute at all. I’m starting to lose optimism in this team, especially for next season. If we are going to be good then guys like Zion Griffin and THT are going to have to be world beaters from day one. These guys can’t put together a solid 40 minutes anymore and it is beyond frustrating watching our guys play. What are everyone else’s thoughts on next season? I hope I’m wrong, I just don’t see us being any decent.

1. Spaces and paragraphs.

2. Jackson's had his moments of excitement and can streaky shoot the team into a game but I can't say his lack of game awareness will be missed. When does the message get sent and when does it sink in that dribbling around endlessly and flailing around inside isn't productive?

That said there's got to be improvement fundamentally and consistency to be good at one end or the other; so far this team hasn't been consistent at either.

Over react much? Losing Jackson isn't that big IMO, we have our best 3 players returning next season who should all be improved (Wigs, Lard and a healthy NWB). Get a very good new starter in Shayok and will have a lot of solid role players and freshman that we didn't have this year. IMO the biggest issue for us this year is depth. We can play with anyone for about 30 mins before most more talented teams wear us down.

Subtitle the thread "Will we ever win again?"

Next year will be a good team. We'll need to get to a faster start than we usually have, and have some halfcourt work to do, but the tools are there to make some noise.

Not 29-4 or whatever some folks are talking themselves into, but a good tournament team with a chance to be better than that.

Or we'll never win again.

This team has done good things. You get an upgrade with Shayok. You get a big upgrade with Jacobson. Hopefully two of the Freshmen will be an upgrade. Young has got better as this season has gone on. Wigginton will better, Lard will be better, and Babb will be healthy. This current team isn't that far off. Things are just very limited now with the injuries.

I agree that depth is an issue. Depth doesn’t seem to be any better next season. Relying on freshman for depth is risky business unless you can bring in recruits like Duke and Kentucky. I also don’t feel like I’m overreacting, but you’re entitled to your opinion.
