Weber's won championships with recruits of others, yes. But others didn't recruit Marcus Foster, Wes Iwundu or Dean Wade.
Prohm won big with the other guy's recruits. And clearly both those coaches, Dixon and Smart, are underachieving this year. Smart's team was awful last year as well. What has Prohm done to that put him ahead of Smart and Dixon?
WTH, I said that above.
But set that aside, do you believe ISU is better than K-State today or next season when the Cats return the entire roster?
2/5, and the 2 were done in his first 2 years, with Martin's players. This season isn’t over yet so don’t count your current record, but how many Big 12 seasons has Bruce coached those players to a conference record over .500?
I'm sure you actually meant that Weber is only other coach with a Big 12 title but what you typed is very misleading.
- Bill Self - has his weakest in first place tie
- Bob Huggins - ugly but effective
- Lon Kruger - history makes this case
- Scott Drew - maybe a slot too low due to his ability to develop talent
- Bruce Weber - overachieving/only coach not named Self with a conference title
- Chris Beard - first place but it's early in his career
- Jamie Dixon - underachieving
- Steve Prohm - sweet personality/won with the other dude's recruits
- Shaka Smart - should have stayed in Richmond, VA
- Mike Boynton - maybe a slot too low
I don't know if I would call Dixon underachieving. The Big 12 is a gauntlet (even the top teams are losing games), and he had his star PG go down with a 13-3 record. He has also had to battle changing the losing culture at a historically bad TCU program.Prohm won big with the other guy's recruits. And clearly both those coaches, Dixon and Smart, are underachieving this year. Smart's team was awful last year as well.
I think Dixon is a top 5 coach, he went 328-123 (72%) at Pitt and is 40-21 at TCU (who has been a bottom feeder ever since they joined the big 12)Prohm won big with the other guy's recruits. I believe Dixon's teams will always be competitive. But Smart will be gone in a few years.
I think Smart will be decent at Texas, but I don't think any coach will make them a contender until that fan base/university start caring more about basketball.I think Dixon is a top 5 coach, he went 328-123 (72%) and is 40-21 at TCU (who has been a bottom feeder ever since they joined the big 12)
Smart hasn't done anything at Texas yet but he made VCU into a great basketball program.
Did Smart do much more than catch lightning in a bottle the Final Four year at VCU? He made them a solid contender for the conference but he never won the CAA or A-10 title and after their big splash to the Final Four the teams did progressively worse in the tourney.I think Dixon is a top 5 coach, he went 328-123 (72%) at Pitt and is 40-21 at TCU (who has been a bottom feeder ever since they joined the big 12)

They think that success is just owed to them in every sport because, after all, they paid for it.I think Smart will be decent at Texas, but I don't think any coach will make them a contender until that fan base/university start caring more about basketball.

And that will be tough going forward with Herman's energy, recruiting, and most likely success.I think Smart will be decent at Texas, but I don't think any coach will make them a contender until that fan base/university start caring more about basketball.
Prohm, Beard and Dixon are lightyears above Weber. Kruger has some accolades but he's coached for 100 years, percentages aren't great. Boynton goes above Smart and Weber if you want to judge him off of this year.
1) Self, Huggins
2) Drew, Kruger
2a) Prohm, Beard, Dixon
3) Weber, Smart
