Power is out in Beaverdale and has been out for about 1.5 hours. This storm fist ****** my usually dry basement and it’s 2 sump pumps.

Disliked only because that sucks. hope you managed to keep the expensive stuff safe.

How's the flooding elsewhere? Ames, Marshalltown, Boone, etc?

I live in Altoona and thought we had a lot of rain - our rain gauge had 3.75 this morning. Also, a few years ago the city put in a 12 inch tile (after everyone's basements flooded in 2010) from the old downtown to a creek just a couple houses down from me and there was still a river running through my backyard.

Channel 8 says 10 in Ankeny, 7.50 in Saylorville, 7.32 in Urbandale, 7.3 in Windsor Heights, Johnston 5.6, downtown 4.5 and the airport 2.33.

I'm over by Jordan Creek and I'm guessing we had between 6 and 7 inches.

I had a brilliant idea shortly before the power went out when I realized how historic the rainfall was becoming. I suggested to my wife that we preemptively get some stuff up and off the floor just in case. The power went out while we doing this, at which point I knew just how ****** we were.

Thankfully there is no carpet down there. Just tile in the finished portions.

Larry Cotler was the one who was killed after being swept away in the flood water.

We just had one of the coldest April’s, one of the hottest Mays and I’m guessing one of the wettest June’s. I’m scared for July!

That means we will have a normal July. Not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing, but im going with it.

Unfortunately, June of 1993 was like this. Continued well through July.

Water was up all the time. Quit a contrast to I think the big drought in '88 iirc.

My home area in Iowa also got flooded out in 1999 too. NE Iowa got 9 inches of rain and it all came down in a huge rush. Lots of houses that got flooded out are now raised.

I live out of state, but I know that area rivers around me haven't seen normal summer conditions in 4 years. Weird.

Hope everyone's alright out there. You simply can't trust or beat water.
