One is a bitter rival. The other is a nobody.
Iowa is our rival. Nebraska is not. Screw them. They were on the schedule and voluntarily left.

Honestly, I'm tired of the cyhawk rivalry bs. All it does is provide a big stimulus to IC or Ames every other year. They've had to take a break in the past due to the rivalry getting out of hand and it is almost nearing that point again.

Nebraska should be more relevant than Iowa in the next few years.

How does ISU benefit from that, though? I don't see how swapping them out does anything for the Cyclones. I'd just as soon they keep the Cy-Hawk game in place as an annual thing.

Just as much as we benefit from just playing the Hawkeyes. When we beat Nebby its a "powerhouse on the rise" and not a "fake ids" program.

If it was up to me I'd rather play Illinois/Indiana/NW, help pull in more midwest recruits.

Way up there
Growing up in western Iowa, Huskers were always a bigger rival to me than Iowa but I have no interest in this. From what I've heard, this isn't that popular an idea among their fans and administration, they still think they'd be doing us a favor by taking over selling out our stadiums. Their fanbase (like most other husker related things) is clueless about the current state of CFB and stuck firmly in the past.

Frost will turn Nebraska around. No doubt. I still remember the years when Nebraska would have more fans inside JTS than Iowa State had in the 90's. I'd much rather have played Nebraska the last 5 years. Not the next 5 years as I think they will be much better. Personally, I'd rather stick with the old Bill Snyder model in the early years. Play 3 cupcake teams, get to 3-0 and get to a bowl game each year to build tradition.

I'm confused. If you're suggesting Nebby to Iowa on the non-con, I guess I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand. It's potentially a pretty tough three game stretch, but the way college football is going that might not be a bad thing. SOS is going to matter more and more.

But if you're suggesting alternating years playing Iowa and Nebby, then I'll pass. There's no incentive for ISU to make that change. Both programs are on roughly the same level if we're talking national recognition. And I'm not convinced Frost is going to get the program to where Nebby fans expect him to.

Another way to look at it may be if we did alternate playing Iowa/Nebraska and IF the Big 12 were to fold in 2023, maybe those two teams would go to bat for us or the Big 10 sees our competitiveness with similar teams in their league?

I would love to play those derpies again! Drop one derpy fan base for another.... errr wait, nevermind, that means we have to put up with two derpy and delusional fan bases. No thanks!

**** Nebraska. There is zero chance we play them in the next 10 years unless it's in a bowl game.

Plus, it's just Frost running his mouth. Star Tribune article today noted that the two top 'talkers" in the Big 10 are Frost and Fleck.

As much as I get the bitterness toward our former conference mates, Iowa State needs more variety and possibility for exposure in its schedule. We currently play the same 10 of 12 teams every single year. It severely limits the amount of visibility we can get. Only TCU has a similar schedule setup, with facing SMU every year (though, Texas and Kansas should add their rivalries back, IMO).

Iowa State can't reasonably schedule another P5 for one of our 2 remaining OOC games, so we need to make room somewhere. We should skip the CyHawk game every third year, so we can schedule another Regional P5. Something like: Year 1 in Iowa City, Year 2 in Ames, Year 3 against the likes of Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri, Colorado, Illinois, Northwestern, Wisconsin, etc.
