What’s the deal with this story? (Missing UI student Mollie Tibbetts)

Well Ragbrai is running through Deep River today. should be able to hear from Riders if the route is diverged or if there is a huge police presence in the tiny town.
I know this is the big story right now but what of the other 43 missing persons from Iowa in the last 10 days. I was surprised when I saw how many people have gone missing recently.

Just speculating here...but is the reason those don't break through to the public consciousness due to easily explained factors like a history of mental illness or drug abuse that are likely behind the disappearance? Or is it a function of not having families/communities to advocate for them and push authorities and the media to publicize it?
Admittedly, there's no way I could keep up with the news of 4-5 people going missing every day. I'd start to tune it out.

Yep, this was in Dayton. Was very familiar with this story being from Fort Dodge. Sad deal.
I would imagine the request and subsequent subpoena to get the info did not happen until the FBI or DCI really got involved. KCRG had an interview with the county sheriff regarding the FitBit stuff last night and his comment was basically "I don't know much about that but apparently they can get info from it."
I'm curious if you know this or have just been reading the reddit thread or the Iowa Rivals thread. I've seen this same stuff said but not actually confirmed anywhere

Oh I totally think internet sleuths can find out just as much if not more from the internet than media nowadays. But the person that was saying it on the other sites wasn't getting much attention so I didn't really know if it was true or not

I'd said before I just hope they find her one way or another to avoid the trafficking fears, but man it doesn't make it any less sad if they do find her and she's been killed. Just so sad.
Thanks. I had checked around and didn't see anything like this being widely reported so I figured it was being discussed by locals. It's too bad, but hopefully they find something definitive to give the family some final answers.
It's just crazy to me that there's been nothing reported at all with some apparently semi credible info out there. Not even anything shutting it down
