Attitude adjustment. We all need it sooner or later, some more than others. Set the tone. They will figure it out hopefully.

I think Campbell will lean on his true student-athlete leaders on how to respond. This is a great opportunity to take one more big step toward being a player-led team. It is a largely new process each year with the incoming class of new chuckleheads.

At this point in the season, missing the next week of practice is more or less akin to missing games. The practice reps they are losing are going to competing players, they'll be playing catch up all year.

Now, they can decide whether to let it help them (work hard to earn the respect of their teammates and coaches) or hurt them (gripe about it and slack off). Hope it is the former.

I love this move by CMC. Let these kids call home to Mommy and explain to her why they're getting suspended from the team indefinitely and possibly even risking their full ride. That ought to go over well.

And I hope Mom or Dad even calls CMC to ask what's going on, because CMC will likely tell them straight that their kid is screwing around and doing stupid things and not following the rules set forth by the team, and if they keep it up, they'll find themselves sent home and lose their scholarship.

I disagree with those that seem to think Scates wouldn't see the field. The kids is the real deal when it comes to his ability and athleticism. Obviously his head needs to stay on straight, but with the new 4 game rule, I could see him getting in and showing the coaches what he is capable of to the point where they wouldn't redshirt him.
I don't think anyone is questioning his ability or that of the other three. The point is simply that they messed up and that doesn'

LOFL. None of these guys were needed for SDS. This is a much better “use” of their time. These guys are counted on years down the road. This week is meaningless in the overall.

They will straighten up, or they will be gone. All up to them at this point. So, what else is new?

Interesting that some people have downplay the importance of these four. Each one has been singled out by the coaches as impressing at one point or another, and my impression was that Morton,, at the least, was on the verge of breaking into the rotation at safety. Scates could easily have seen the field.

Still, better they get their heads on straight now. I guess we’ll see how soon they get back into good graces.

Not being needed for SDSt doesn’t mean “this” (being suspended from all team activities) is a better use of their time. Scates was in the running for legitimate playing time, particularly now with 4 free games, and this clearly hurts his chances in beating out other essentially new WRs for the backup reps. At least one or two of the other three were likely to have gotten the chance to prove themselves in the four free games as well (Morton).

I’ve not noticed anyone saying missing this time is career altering. One silly act isn’t even concerning, although apparently all four have already reach the mulligan max limit prior to their first season. That subset of players does have a correlation to less than optimal careers imo.

I don't think anyone is doubting any of these guys abilities. Just can't have a bunch of freshman not following the rules and doing stupid things.

I think it can impact years down the road, if not working out or practicing with the team is a better use of their time, why aren't all freshman doing the same?

I didn't work out or practice with the team my freshman year either and my college football career was pretty much non-existent

Lol that’s not it.

Cause he wasn’t a good coach?

You’re right. That one specific reason for not suspending players is not why he got fired.

Rhoads wasn’t a good coach. Plain and simple. From recruiting to managing the players. Boy could he give a fiery speech, though!

Do stupid **** and pay the price. I'm glad our coaches aren't afraid to suspend people for screwing up no matter what the sport. Prohm, Fennelly & Campbell, all have pretty high standards and I'm glad they do. There is more to life than athletics.

That BB pistol could have gotten somebody killed (The person holding it) looked real enough with that laser sight especially, point that at a cop and get yourself killed justifiably IMO.

I think this whole thing is good news. You get a chance to reinforce your culture to the team while not losing guys that would have played meaningful snaps. If the 4 don’t turn things around, they’re gone. If they get in trouble again, they’re gone. But the point has been made...do things the right way or you’re not going to be around long.
I would think watching last chance u would be enough to show how good athletes have it at this level, but sometimes that needs to be reinforced. Not that I think any of the 4 are necessarily bad kids, but they’re definitely learning a lesson right now.

Yeah, how many young black males have been shot or beat up by police for less? There have been kids killed where police thought they had a gun, much less had a replica in hand. These guys are lucky all they got was a suspension. They should know better.

Too bad they came to ISU, at other schools they could have just been suspended for the first game. Or, wait a minute, maybe they are actually being taught a lesson here! Actual punishment for wrongdoing that forces you to change your ways. Huh!
You’re kidding right? Don’t tell that to Tongamoa.
