Schedule a contingency game?

Here's a crazy suggestion.

Iowa State and Nebraska should get together and announce a December 1 'contingency' game at Arrowhead. The game would automatically be cancelled if either team qualifies for their respective conference championship game. Gate receipts would be evenly split between both programs (fans who attended both games last night would be refunded).

It would be a relatively inexpensive road trip for both teams and a short travel for their fans. The crowd would be huge.

This is not a bad idea. I have no idea how feasible it would be though

This would be about the last ******* choice.

We need a win. As such, we should beg the NCAA to grant a waiver to a ****** FCS team and find one of those to play. That Southern team that Baylor played is free on our off week. Try to get them. If not, sign one up for championship week.

Team that baylor played has a former player (although one that may have never seen the field) coaching for them.

From how I read Jamie’s words, the only “contingencies” are A. If we can’t schedule a game October 30th, and B. If we still need a win for bowl eligibility. That’s the only way we play on the same day as the Big XII Championship.

If we’re playing in the title game, bowl eligibility is a moot point.

Not playing a game at all is as good as a loss. Plus we could go and get an extra win vs a big 10 team and get a chance to kick nebbie in the ballz

I want the the win much more than I care about some Big 10 team. The best way to get the win is to schedule a bad FCS team.

Youre a lot more optimistic about even being able to get another fcs team than I am. I just want the extra game most, forget the chances of winning

How many teams are going to want to come to Ames after seeing the crazy **** we displayed Saturday night? That crowd was intimidating.

The playing NU option is discussed in this and at least one additional thread, the more I think about it, the more unrealistic it seems, even if the schools did want to play it. Determining site is an obvious hurdle, neutral field is an intriguing option, but either way, how do you organize ticket purchases (or make-up refunds from the canceled games) and site prep for a game that might not be played anyway?

That would be such a fun game and good for fans in each state.

I know there's still a lot of sour feelings about Nebraska but this would be a great time to play them.

Why would any Cyclone fan not want a shot at Nebraska?? We had to play them for so long with awful teams and they were really good. Now we've got a team like we do and we're avoiding the game??

If we needed to get that 6th win to become bowl eligible, I think I'd take my chances with an FCS school to get it...not Nebraska.

Oh, Nebbie will be very beatable. I just don't see the point.
They aren't coming here. We aren't going there. The Arrowhead thing is just people winging out ideas.

So, for @dualthreat's idea, why should I care about playing Nebraska? There's no real gain in it, there's no real way it's happening, so I can just move right on along.

The same reason to care about any football games. To compete and win.

I'm not opposed to scheduling William and Mary just to pad our record, but I think we can and would beat Nebraska and I want to beat Nebraska and all of our other rivals because that is what football is all about.
