If we averaged 23 points per game thus far, we'd be 3-1.

I'd be willing to bet that we'll surrender 23 points or more only once the rest of the season, unless the wheels completely come off (and I don't think Matt Campbell HC lets that happen).

Will Grier is going to nuke this secondary if they aren't a little better. That game could get ugly just because of the matchup.

That's the game I assume we'll give up more than 23.

I haven't been impressed with OK State at all. I assume we'll lose to Texas, but I see it being a 20-10 type game.

I still think we have Tech's number (and they've lost their starting QB), and we're better than the remaining 4 teams, period.

Quality NCAA QB's create a half step of delay/uncertainty for the opposing LB on nearly every play by using an (honest to goodness) in the belly fake, combined with multiple play options/looks. Our ball fakes are going through the motion only.

A couple weeks ago I was attacked for questioning whether Campbell ever had OC chops or if he was possibly propped up by Candle. Toledo got better offensively when Campbell left and the offense here has been average at best. Everything we've done the last two years has relied on individual effort and ability. How many times have we had a receiver running uncovered in the secondary because Campbell nuked their safeties? Never. This is comparable to Messinghams offense. If DM is out for a period of time, it may be worse. It's by far the worst offense in the Big 12 right now and I don't really see that changing because I don't know how coaches are changing overnight. I have complete faith in Campbell as a HC but I have about zero in him as an OC. If I were him, I'd go hire some HS or low level college guys who's been throwing up a boatload of points and give him control over the offense. No position coaching, just design and gameplan.
You got attacked because your supporting evidence was ****, like the VMI-Toledo score or what happens when you lose DM, and for saying it was Candle and not Toledo’s new OC.

It’s been apparent for a year now that CMC plays it close to the vest with a backup QB when the defense allows him to. Congrats for noticing.

That was a very tactful and indirect, yet complete and total evisceration of Campbell's play calling.

We need an OC. I don't know why anyone is resisting that at this point.

Coaches are stubborn Type A personalities. The really good ones, like good CEO's, can look at their results and hire people to help cover their weaknesses.

CMC called the plays last year too
How frustrated was Manning about that?

I’m looking forward to seeing this offense once the staff has enough confidence in the players on that side. I liked what we saw with Park, and even Lanning at times.

But does that only happen when they lack confidence in the defense? We can throw out the OL excuse, but it lacks credibility when you consider the success we had with the same quality OL with Park and the increase in production that we typically have whenever the defense is facing a bigger challenge.

He knew what was happening when he took the position. Gasser and Manning helped CMC with play calling last year and now it's Gasser and Gordon. CMC has been the main play caller since he got here

It is a very small thing, but I agree with what you are saying. Also, might as well get rid of the zone read and put Zeb under center if he is never going to keep the ball. The Zone read just gives defenses an extra second or two to zero in on the play.

I'd like to see Zeb keep it some too. He showed on that scramble that he's a decent runner. Just needs to keep a couple times a game to keep the defense honest.

Yeah, well let me know when we score 30 against a decent defense with a NFL caliber WR who is 6'6 and a RB who is among the best in the nation. We can't even break 30 against Akron. We aren't putting 66 on anyone. You didn't like the evidence because it showed something you didn't like. Toledo got better offensively when Candle took over even though they lost Hunt, and we have not gotten better offensively.

I don't think our offense will be good until we get a good OL no matter who's calling plays. Just my opinion

Can't argue that our OL isn't very good, but I'd disagree that a good OC can't come up with a scheme to overcome a deficient OL.

One glaring thing you need to do is have the QB get rid of the ball quickly. Design routes that will allow this, not just out routes to the sideline which require time and very long passes just to make short yards.

On the ISU fumble that went for the TD, the OL got completely destroyed right up the middle. I know some guys pulled for the draw play, but you have to at least slow the guys coming right up the middle. The blitz did disrupt the play further, but not sure it Zeb would have got the pass off anyway as fast as that guy came in. OL still is awful and not sure if you can scheme around that and get the ball down field in the seams, but doing the same handful a plays and hoping it will work out is a disaster.

Great analysis as always. CMC needs an OC desperately. I realize he can call plays, but someone dedicated to figuring out what to do to change the attack is needed badly. Need to make it a lot harder for the other team's DC.

One additional not, TCU got away with a really blatant facemask by number 77 on the tunnel screen TD. Guy just ripped one of the pursuing defenders to the ground by the facemask. Can't see it in Jay's clip, but it was really bad in one of the other clips of the play.

Watch that play again. That was a safety blitz from Way outside (although timed much better than our blitzes as they actually got there in time to do something). I thought the RB had just missed the blitz pick up but Jay noted that it was a screen pass and they is evident as everyone started run blocking.
