Is Purdy the guy?

Only problem with Zeb is he can't make up for our weak o-line. He's a pocket passer and we cannot give him the time needed to play to his style. Purdy just needs to make slightly better decisions and he will be Johnny Manzel without the d-bag syndrome.

That may be true, and having a mobile quarterback for sure helps the o-line.. but honestly I've not seen anything from Zeb yet which tells me he can be "the guy". He's got a stronger arm than Kempt, but honestly that's about it.

Play calling is so limited with him in the game because he needs time to make use of his gifts. We can call anything with a guy like Purdy. Zeb is a great NFL style QB. We just don't have that type of offensive line or offensive style. Our skill set was perfectly accentuated today by Brock.

So the argument can be made that Ok Lite wasn’t prepared for a scrambling qb. I would counter with the fact the Brock is insanely good at pump fakes, reading a defense, keeping his eyes upfield, and pushing to make positive yards as opposed to forcing called plays. How many times did dude pump fake, juke and completely F with a decent defense?

He’s the real deal. As an admitted critic of Campbell being OC, this kid is the REAL DEAL.

OSU doesn't have a decent defense

I liked what I saw today and that means a lot. But let's not forget the OSU's defense is terrible. Let's see what he can do against WVU before we declare him the starter for the next 4 years.

So I’m on record on this site as a “not the backup love” guy, sometimes to a fault. I defended Arnaud over the Tiller/Bates love. I defended Steele over the Barnett/Richardson love. I defended Richardson over the Rohach/Lanning love. Hell, I defended Park over the Kempt love. And I was defending Kempt over the Noland love.

But this guy seems to be different. I’m all on board the Purdy train. I think he’s our guy.

That said, his style of play, he IS going to get dinged up. But I’m confident this staff is significantly better than CPR’s and won’t pull a Richardson and keep running read plays with Purdy if he’s only about 40% healthy.
I feel the same way you do. The back up is the back up for a reason. However, this seems like CMC was figuring out when he was ready to go, rather than needing to throw a guy in who wasn't ready out of panic.

It comes back to trusting the process and this coaching staff. They know what they are doing. Can't wait to see how Purdy and this team looks against WVU.

Let's not forget we will also get our best player back at some point. It's tough to not get too excited about Purdy. Having him a Montgomery back there together is very exciting. He was more poised, more in control than we've ever seen Noland, and I was fully on board with Zeb working the kinks out.

I think the big difference between Brock and the other fizzle-outs folks have mentioned (Barnett, Jantz, Tiller specifically) is the Purdy is a talented QB who happens to be mobile. The other guys were, in my eyes, superb athletes who happened to have a strong arm.

I thought Purdy made good decisions, first and foremost, but his throws were precise. The long bombs to Milton and Akers were sights to behold; Noland tended to overthrow those passes. Purdy put those passes in the right spot.

I've been complaining to myself (and others) that our QB are statues. case and point first possession of the game today. With a mobile QB it opens so much up. With a Mobile QB I think we win the or much more competitive game against IA and TCU. From what CMC said at half time he knows and sees that too. But not so fast....

Purdy gets four games, Kempt is coming back too. Real Mitchel should also get some time. So I think Purdy goes 4 games and sits with 4 years to play. Kepmpt gets his job back and if things don't work out, real Mitchel comes in and ends the year with 4 to play. Next year Purdy starts and Mitchel backs him up both redshirt freshman.

Agreed...it's not like Okie State doesn't face any other teams with a dual threat QB...they did make some adjustments at halftime to place a SPY on Purdy, which then produced more one on one coverages that we exploited. Okie State picked their poison and died...

I was really impressed by Purdy making the pump fakes to force defenders to commit, both on runs and passes, and also by that 2pt conversion. The fact that he rolled out and was pressured, and found an open RB in the endzone through traffic while a defender was holding on to him. Those are tremendous displays of calm and football IQ from a true freshman.

Guys I think some of us are overthinking this. Purdy is infinitely more talented as a playmaker at the QB position than anybody else on the roster. His natural football ability really stood out today, he needs to be the starter going forward. **** the redshirt.
