Is Purdy the guy?

Isn't Kempt like 1-6 in his last 7 starts? I'm tired of people saying he deserves to start because of a game 13 months ago. If he's healthy and the best quarterback, start him.

My guess: he's not either of those

It’s not that bad, 2-4 in the last six, but 1-4 in the last five. He’s seemingly been injured for most of those.

May as well throw the kid to the fire and see what he has against a good WVU team. We're playing with house money right now so put all the chips on the table and see where the dice fall. Our offense came to life as soon as Purdy came into the game so no matter what QB we put out against WVU you may as well ride your hot hand and see how it plays out as we will be the underdog regardless.

I think Brock Landers Purdy is going to feed off of a 6pm packed Jack.

One thing I noticed is that with Noland we ran a few Run/Pass option type plays over the last few weeks, but it was ALWAYS the RB run option that was taken, to the point that they didn't even pay attention to the QB anymore because it was so scripted by then. It seemed to me that those were some of the plays that really opened up against OK St, when Purdy would keep it and run, or throw out of that play.

The dual threat QB can make some things happen.

This is the perfect game to get DM back. WV has tape in Purdy with no DM...so imo they don’t really have any tape at all.

Purdy is extremely accurate. IMO the slight underthrows were having receivers wide open and not wanting to overthrow them. Take the sure completion. Some of his throws were into extremely tight windows. Purdy is a baller.

My questions is how much of those underthrows were him not knowing his receivers? He probably hasn't practice many seam routes with Hakeem/Eaton. As a second string QB he has gotten a lot of reps with Milton/Akers and every time he threw to them, he was hitting them in stride, except that 60 yard to Milton, but like most said, Purdy knew he was about to get lit up after the throw.

Notice how open our receivers got vs OSU. I remember watching Baylor back when they were actually good and thinking, how are their receivers always open by 5-10 yds? A lot of that is the QB play, looking off defenders and ball action and Purdy is fantastic with the ball fakes. FINALLY, we saw open receivers against OSU by 5-10 yds. To me, starting Brock is a no brainer.

I hope Kyle becomes a coach. What a rock solid dude!

I am all for Purdy getting the start against WVU, but this crap on here about Kempt being a grad assistant in his remaining games needs to stop.

If Purdy keeps playing well he should start every game the rest of the season. His running gives a different dynamic to the offense. It doesn't have to stop nor should it, and I love Kempt.

And bam, it's as simple as that. I felt like when watching Noland he was locked in on 1 WR and wouldn't progress through his reads. Now, granted he half the time couldn't get to those options because he'd be sacked by then. It's as simple as Brock using his feet and fakes to get his positioning or buy himself time to allow routes to open up. He emphasizes the details and helps himself out by doing so.

Yes, but the is the case for any of the QB's assuming they play well. I think the coaches should just focus on this week and chose the QB that gives the team the best chance.
Purdy has earned the opportunity after playing well last week. We can debate next Sun/Mon if he should be the starter after the Bye. Then we'll have 2 games of play and one where WV has game planned for Brock.

Since the coaches have already said it'll be Purdy or Kempt (excluding Zeb on Monday) I assume that is there thinking. Also having the Bye is an easy way to rule KK out to make sure he's a full 100% and practicing before bringing him back (only if BP doesn't live up to his first performance),

General thought after reading this thread:

I don't like the idea of shuffling 2 QB's going into Saturday, WV is too good and explosive on offence to possibly feel out the first quarter to see about the QB's. ISU could easily be down multiple scores at that point. Let one play out at least a half and get a rhythm. Another reason I think Brock should be the starter for this game is I don't want Kyle to need a few possessions to knock of the rust of not playing for a month.

Come on man, do you really believe its a 2-man race? Campbell is putting OR on the depth chart because he doesn't officially want to name Brock as the starter. Let WVU D prepare for both QB's. Even OSU prepared for both. It's likely WVU already knows who they're facing anyways.

Watched it again last night and from what I could tell he gets the ball out quicker than what we've seen and has good feet for it as well.

It's not even that he's a runner as much as he can adjust to pressure and still get a good throw off.

Something I really appreciated was the shots of Noland coming over and showing support and Kempt too. Everything's easier if everyone is working toward the same thing.
