Re: What did LJ do?

late hit. very late hit. this followed a personal foul only a few plays earlier. it is getting blown wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out of proportion.

NO KIDDING!!

Almost to the point of scary. The kid screwed up, hell the whole team has screwed up with PF's this season.

LJ's special, Ellis Hobbs special if you ask me and I still want a #23 jersey for Christmas.

This is a kid who chose us over Michigan. Trust me, the coaching staff will manage his fire.

Re: What did LJ do?

Check out the Youtube below.

That's it? That's it?!!! That's all people see, and they want him kicked off the team?

Good grief, even on that little bit of video, I can't see what all happened. I can't tell what's going on between him and the receiver, I can't tell, but maybe the receiver pushed him--and it looked like he suddenly turned around and maybe didn't have enough field awareness to realize where they we on the field, or even thought about already being in the end zone, and just reacted.

Sure he popped him. But I also can't see what happened next, it's out of the picture. Was he coming back to talk smack? Or was he standing there trying to say he was sorry? See how the guy was, the moment he realized where they both were, once there wasn't one body or another blocking his vision--not only out of bounds, but out of the end zone? I guess it's not like anyone has ever gotten turned around on the field before--see Jim "Wrong Way" Marshall.

I'm sorry, but just from that one snippet of video, there are a whole bunch of things I don't know, and while the hit itself was hard, he makes hard hits--and there's just too much I don't know to make any judgement.

At the very least, I'd want to see more video, a wider angle, longer piece of the sequence--and I'd want to talk to the kid, to see what he was thinking. At the very least.

Then again, it doesn't matter to you, since you're not going to be doing the judging anyway, and Chizik is the only one who should really care about this anyway.

7% of those voting want him kicked off the team, yet the "it's not that bad" crowd continues to focus on that very small group - as if they're the vocal majority here.

Amusing.

I think he just lost his head in the heat of the moment. He looked like he was near tears on the sideline afterwards and looked pretty remorseful, so it may have been the best thing to happen to him to open his eyes about having some mental toughness. The run him till he pukes method should also make him think twice next time.

I'm going to disagree with this. I was sitting about 100 feet behind LJ both after the first penalty and the rest of the first half (after the late hit), and it went like this:

1. LJ gets pissed at someone for jawing at him and commits the first penalty.

2. LJ comes off of the field pumping his fist and high-fives another player after the foul was already called. Chizik gets directly in his face for about a minute and yells at him.

3. LJ sits out the first few plays of the next series. His next play in, he commits the VERY late hit. The angle in that YouTube video is awful - LJ came and popped the guy after he was halfway into the endzone and heading out-of-bounds. What exactly was the point of that hit?? To make it less of a touchdown? He wasn't even manned up on the QB.

4. LJ gets ejected, comes to the sidelines. He sits directly in front of us and chats with other players for the rest of the half. If he looked at any point like he was going to cry, it sure didn't last long. No contrition, no going to the locker room. He tries to get into the huddle, etc.

5. He doesn't come back out onto the field after the half.

I've had a lot of time to think this over since last night. Obviously, whatever Chizik decides is best. If I were coach, I'd make him sit out a game or two after the mandatory one. He's had four games to learn to cool down, and it's only getting worse. He needs to learn to play with his head as well as his heart. Also, it WAS embarrassing to be in the crowd after that play.

On that first play where he got the foul, they would have been in a third and long situation. If he'd held his cool, there's a decent chance we could have prevented them converting, and from scoring later in that drive (and also would have prevented the late hit later on, but that's beside the point).

Omar Clayton scored on about a 20 yard run and when he was about 5 yrds deep in the endzone he had relaxed and raised the ball up and LJ just leveled him, and he was on the ground for a while

Say what you will but I will support intensity and aggresivness always.

I think we should be careful about judging LJ. Football is an incredibly violent game and we have a coach that clearly puts a premium on playing physical.

I think when you're playing the game, there's a fine line between playing physical and playing out of control. Clearly LJ has been out of control on several occasions, but he's a freshman and freshmen often times make bonehead mistakes. I guess I'd much rather our coaches have to deal with the problem of trying to reign players in than trying to light fires under their butts to get them to play aggressively. I trust our coaches will take the right approach with LJ.

I thinkthe guy that has played D1 football...may have a better understanding of field dynamics than internet 'experts'. Thanks for the input Curt.

I have to agree with this. Someone who knows vs armchair QB's wannabee opinions. Frankly this little pissing match is getting old and some of the arguments on both sides are getting a little ridiculous. This one play didn't lose our game for us!!!!! Let Chizik handle it and move on................all of us included in this one.

:biglaugh:

Anybody else feel the need to go out and buy Preperation H after reading some of this????????

Now if we could do it without what amounts to cheating or acting like a bunch of Pac-man Jones wannabees.
did I miss LJ's fight, shooting at the strip club, or are we making this so silly that we are now comparing a freshman with a few PF's to a suspended NFL player? I think some folks need to unwad their panties.

He may be a long-term problem but my guess is Chiz will TCO, and we need to support the coach, player, and team. Relax-

PS, Pacman isn't suspended, he is playing right now.
