If I was Fred, the last few years would have soured me on just about everything coaching related. I'd probably want to just roll around in my money with my family for a few years and r-e-l-a-x out of the spotlight.

After seeing Fred's last recruiting class and Prohm's recent one, I hope not many would want that.

I love Fred for everything he did at Iowa State. But I also look at see that we have 5 NBA guys and a handful of oversees pros that we had - and he had one Sweet 16 to show for it.

Please don't downplay the immediate turn around and how quickly put program back on national map.

He may have had 5 NBA players - but best among that group is a backup NBA PG. Not forgetting how awesome these guys were to ISU - but not like it was a Kentucky/Kansas NBA roster.

NCAA tournaments are a crapshoot... i'll remember the big 12 championships instead.

I don’t think Fred will be active for a couple years at least. He’s going to stay home. That home is probably Minnesota I would guess.

I will ask my grandma though she can ask the Hoiberg’s.

Dude. You need to be more careful about name dropping. That one fell right on my foot.

Don't get it, the bulls should be looking to lose every game the rest of the season and take Zion or Barret, as long as GarPax are in charge the Bulls are hosed.
I agree and its not like they wanted to win big this year so why pay a coach to not coach and then pay other coaches more to coach for you. Does any of that make sense?

I think the whole "don't like recruiting thing" was overblown. Assistants can help you recruit, they can't coach 100+ games for you in the NBA every year.

Also if recruiting was easy at blue bloods you wouldn't see KU, UNC, Louisville etc all bending the rules and cheating. It's a nasty business everywhere all the time.

I think the whole “hate recruiting” thing was for cover when he left here. Everyone bought it, so it worked. Fred told everyone what they wanted to believe, not necessarily the truth.

I think there is more truth to this than we want to admit (plus Parrish is well keyed into the college coaching scene):

Add in his flirtations with Minnesota back in the day and the smoke around him and Ohio State last year...

This is an “expert” extrapolating experiences of every coach that has been in a similar situation and applying it generally to Hoiberg instead of actually understanding Fred. Unless Fred has changed his view on recruiting, Parrish is way off base on this.

So called experts do the same thing with Campbell every time a job opens up that is “better” than Iowa State.

Hey..... Fred needs a job and we need an Offensive Coordinator.

With his player spacing and ball movement philosophies we would be scoring in the 80s in no time. (insert jimlad here)

Well, they still have to pay Hoiberg his guaranteed money. So I don't think this makes sense.

Not exactly sure.
Fred probably doesn't need to work. When he was with the Pacers he talked about how he lived very frugally and one time there was a fight and he sat on the bench and for a split second thought about not going on the court because he knew it was a 10k fine or something. Then realized that if he didn't, teammates would probably turn on him so he went. He went to the bathroom and Johnny mentioned that Fred was investing most of his earnings and living as cheap as possible.

With his salary savings, his ISU and Chicago earnings, his NBA pension. He is able to do what ever he wants.

Hmm. It appears that the "Fred Hoiberg had a football scholarship offer to Nebraska" trope has been forgotten.

Why would Fred take another head coaching job if he can get something else or do nothing and collect $25 million for next year? Guess if it was me I would take a front office job somewhere, unless that keeps him from collecting the buyout. If he can't work at all, just go have fun for a year.

His friends didn’t do him any good. But frankly, he wasn’t that good any way. It’s not like his ****** teams over achieved. His strengths in college were not strengths in the NBA. He just wasn’t a good NBA coach.

Assuming he professionally managed his money, he will retire.

And retire in Chicago or Minneapolis where the family can be free to go to dinner, shopping etc without fan recognition (I think this contributed to his leaving the state of Iowa)

Health wise it may be a wise decision

Now he doesn’t to work Christmas Day
